“I anticipated that this cable would perform well owing to its use of Cardas conductors. I have long used Cardas hook-up wire in speaker internal wiring, in modifying commercial kit, and in homemade amplifier construction, and found it to be wondrously detailed, spatially open, musical, etc. The Pangea digital cable uses RCA connectors with minimal metal. Despite the perception that large, chunky bits of gold-plated brass comprise high quality, it's actually a bad thing for audio, as thick metal gives rise to eddy currents, skin effect, and maybe proximity effect, all of which are degradative. My previous digital connector, the LAT International DI-20 employs locking RCAs, machined from a solid piece of brass, are very substantial, and look great with their gold plating. The conductors are silver-plated copper, called "silverfuse", and thought to be of high quality.
In my system the Pangea digital cable sounds much better than the LAT DD-20. There is noticeably improved resolution, especially in the highs, and greater dynamic slam. I could upgrade the LAT's RCAs to modern, minimal-metal types, such as KLE, but these cost as much as, or more than, the Pangea cable, so why bother? I'm so happy with the upgrade that I've taken a break from LP playback to listen to CDs again. Excellent!”
