“My experiences with Sykes have been really good, excellent in fact. Easy to book, great cottages, no hassle key collection and departure. I used to be suspicious of them because they are often cheaper than their competitors and thought they were downmarket but how wrong I was.”
“My partner and I, along with our two Labradors, had a lovely week at Hedgehogs Cottage. It’s in a peaceful spot in Glenrothes, with a great footpath right outside the door and beautiful wooded walks nearby—ideal for the dogs to explore.
The cottage itself is very well equipped with everything you might need, including clear instruction manuals for appliances like the cooker and oven. It was clean, cosy, and thoughtfully laid out.
The outdoor area was a real bonus—there’s a lovely covered seating area with lighting and a barbecue, perfect for relaxing in the evenings.
One minor issue was the wardrobe in the main bedroom, which was a bit difficult to access due to the bedside table. It did open just enough to reach in, and the table was easy to move if needed, so it wasn’t a big deal.
If we’d been staying longer, a clothes maiden or retractable washing line would’ve been useful for drying laundry. We did find radiator airers, but they were a bit too small for larger items.
Overall, we had a fantastic stay and will definitely be returning! ☺️”

“All I could have wished for in a cottage, and in a beautiful setting with views over the fields and out to the north-east. On a clear day you can see the two cathedrals in Liverpool! Such a quiet and peaceful setting. Cottage itself had all I could need and was so comfortable. Owners were very welcoming and on hand if there was a problem, as well as providing a lovely welcome hamper. Not far from various towns, historic sites and gardens as well as the mountains etc. In short I would recommend it for anyone wanting a real break from a busy life.”
“We had a very comfortable stay, and I love the wooden lodges. Our little dog Freddie also had fun.
The horses in the paddock were an added bonus. Sharing bits of apple with them.

“We've been to the same site with Hoseasons but could only get the availability of a lodge through Sykes this year. The booking process was good, but the lodge was not the best. No option for pamper packs or additional items. And no basics such as tea, coffee, milk or condiments/sugar. Very poor!
Internally it was ok; good layout. The showers didn't fully function and there was a lack of hooks behind doors for towels, dressing gowns etc. Externally the steps and bannisters were old, broken and very shaky, seriously dangerous in parts. The hot tub was always in the shade and very overgrown with trees and leaves on the decking. Unfortunately we'd not recommend this lodge or booking with Sykes I'm afraid.”

“Excellent accommodation. Very clean and tidy and well provisioned with kitchen equipment as well as books and games. Great local pub "The Poppe Inn" with good food and a handy local shop within easy walking distance.”
