We had a great group of folks on our trek. All members were very supportive of one another and encouraging. Really enjoyed our guide Peter.

I have just returned from the Amalfi trek - it was superbly planned and executed. Our guide Pete Myers was thoughtful, considerate and thorough and led us with flair and charisma. A tough walk but very rewarding and great fun. I thoroughly recommend it.

Have just completed the Amalfi Coast hike ( Oct 2023 ) It was superb. Route and organization were fantastic plus our guide ( Pete Myers ) was great. I can fully recommend this trip. Don't underestimate the physical and mental challenge of this hike. Significant training is required plus a reasonable head for heights on a couple of very short sections.

The trek was challenging and exhilarating. Our leader and guide Nigel quickly embraced the group and enlightened us with his quick wit. His knowledge of the WW1 battles that took place in the mountains where we were hiking was fascinating. Nigel is competent and professional in ensuring hiking safety. Everyday we hiked in beautiful mountain settings and stayed overnight in quaint small towns. The three nights in different Refugios added to the adventure. Picnic lunches were another highlight. This is a well planned and orchestrated trip. Loved every minute.

Dolomites Trek September 2023. Nigel our guide led us on this spectacular and very challenging hike. He is a funny, patient and caring leader that told us frequent tales along the way. Nigel is a great motivator and helped us push through those last few kilometres at the end of long days. The 360 views are incredible each and everyday. Very easy dealing with Salamander in every way.

Have just returned from the Dolomites Trek September 2023 led by our amazing leader Nigel. His enthusiasm, humour, kindness and attentiveness to all enriched our experience throughout our journey. This is a challenging trek that requires training. Salamander Adventures is a great organization; they were there for any pre trip questions or concerns.

Wow! Salamander’s TMB was a wonderful adventure! (Sept. ’23) It was challenging but fun and beautiful scenery each and every day. Our guide, Pete was friendly, experienced, and knowledgeable of the trail. He communicated well about the weather and daily trail expectations. Each day the group met after breakfast, picked a lunch item to carry for the day, and started hiking. The trek was true to the itinerary. The hotels were nice and staying at the auberges allowed you to meet other hikers on the trail. Going clockwise was good because you met different people each day. The food was generally good and it was fun stopping at the refuges for coffee and a fruit tart. We took our binoculars for birding but never used them; there was no time. It was a tough, steady pace each day, but well worth the effort and very rewarding. I would recommend this trek to anyone with a good pair of hiking boots and poles!

Just completed the Dolomite Traverse (2023). Highly recommend this trek. The Dolomite rock formations and views were amazing. Ollie is an excellent guide who did a great job explaining what hiking conditions were coming up, explaining the history of area, and describing the different flora and fauna we were seeing. He also did a great job of pacing the hiking to the groups abilities. This is my second trip with Salamander. My trips have always been a great value for the price. The Dolomite accommodations and food provided were all very good. Ollie does a great job of putting together great picnic lunches at scenic locations. Also Phil and Cathy provide excellent customer service promptly answering any questions in preparation for the trip. Overall excellent experience from beginning to end.

Salamander's Tour De Mt Blanc was an amazing adventure! The daily itinerary accurately depicted each hike and the advice to be confident of one's physical fitness level should be heeded! The direction they chose to hike the TMB allows you to build confidence in your ability to complete the more challenging hikes that lay ahead at the end of the tour. As the oldest member of our group and having never done this kind of repetitive hiking mileage, I had no difficulty completing the trek but started training in January. Our guide, Anna, was OUTSTANDING and truly added to the JOY of this hike! Each day she set off to buy our lunches and treated us to a variety of cheeses, meats, savory spreads, and special cookies/chocolates! On our challenging uphill days, she found a steady pace for the group, smiled and said, "Let's stroll!." She was always aware of the group's abilities and offered help when needed. She informed us of when there would be water available during each day's hike so we could judge what to carry and when we could refill. She inquired as to what our interests were (history, flowers, geography) and educated us along these lines during the hike as we passed through the different countries. Our hotel accommodations were lovely and the 2 nights at the Auberge's were fine- just a bit challenging to bring the luggage to the 3rd floor at the first one and protein for breakfast was lacking at the second one- especially given the uphill climb that ensued! Otherwise, all the breakfast and dinner meals were also outstanding. Communication with Salamandar was very good- documents were delivered promptly, and if a question was posed they responded quickly! A billing glitch on the second payment was resolved without significant difficulty. Salamander was a great choice for this trip!

I joined the TMB in late July 23 with absolutely zero expectations. I was a bit worried about walking with a group, but man this was so awesome! Now hiking on my own again, I miss all those people. It was a very diverse group of people but somehow we’re all here for the same, so no matter what you always have that in common and it worked very well. I think in a way we all left our comfort zone, like when we where in the auberges. But tbh those are now my best memories of the trip! Dave our guide was really awesome. Laid back type of person, but everything was planned very well and under control. Some people are slow some are fast. Some skip a day or two. He juggled all those situations in the best way I could imagine! I’ll probably do the exact same trip again and I’ll recommend it to everyone!

The Tour du Mont Blanc was absolutely incredible. Everything I was hoping it to be and so much more. We had a wonderful guide (Anna G.) who was incredibly capable and cared wonderfully for our group. Her knowledge of the local culture and history was a bonus. The hiking was challenging but well worth the breath-taking views every day. Our weather was perfect and we were part of a large and diverse group, all of whom were terrific! I am hoping to go back soon and do another trek that Salamander offers. If you are considering this trek, I cannot recommend it enough!

This trail was amazing! We felt completely cared for by our guide, Ana! She kept us informed about the day on the trail, accommodations, and resting points, as well as making sure we were all doing fine physically. Ana also added information on local culture and history which made the trip even better. As an added note, the food was better than we expected. We would highly recommend this trip if you like a challenging but doable hike in incredible beauty!!

I enjoyed the Tour du Mont Blanc but I would recommend this trip with reservations. The group of people was lovely. The scenery was simply breathtaking. I consider myself fit and the hiking was challenging, uneven, and steep. Constant vigilance was needed to prevent twisted ankles and worse. But yet, I enjoyed it. The only thing that diminished my experience was our guide, Dave. He was the type of guy who would take his kid on a road trip across the county and wouldn’t stop for ice cream… but they arrive at the exact day and time dad planned - meanwhile the kid didn’t have much fun. Sorta missed the point of the road trip with your kid. He seemed to be a nice enough guy and got us from place to place safely but overall my adventure often felt rushed and I was given little to no information about what the day held in store in terms of distance, difficulty, breaks, or anything else. At the beginning there was no review of hydration, sunblock, outdoor bathroom etiquette, blister prevention, safety protocol, or itinerary - we just sort of started. He did one brief lesson on poles. Like children, we were “allowed” to eat a tart/cake at small establishments along the way but he insisted he order for us and we were not to order other food because the proprietors would be upset or would be overwhelmed or any number of excuses that implied if we didn’t listen to him we would be breaching some form of unspoken cultural faux pas. So, not understanding local customs, we followed his rules. Which in hind site felt manipulative. I assume we missed these local meals because of a timeline or itinerary that he had but was never communicated to us. I never heard him encourage anyone or praise anyone. I didn’t dislike him, but I needed more open communication and for him to appreciate we were all on our vacations not on a mission or deadline. When I expressed my desire to linger and “smell the roses” and eat local foods to make the exhausting hike more pleasant he stated something about the complications of a democracy - which sort of told me it was his trip and he ran it his way. 5 of 14 people didn’t complete the tour - either from skipping sections or quitting. Again, overall I was pleased with the adventure but sadly I felt like I missed a lot of experiences to get to the hotel a smidge earlier. I would recommend it to fit people who like a rapid pace. If I did it again I don’t think I would do the 9 day trip. It was an hour or two longer than I wanted every day and there were not enough opportunities for resting our feet, tasting local food, or just taking in the profound beauty of the Alps.

This was a first-rate trek with our guide Dave Meyer. I did the TMB solo in 2021, but this was much better. Dave was a unifying factor. He was knowledgeable, patient, explained everything and was able to motivate those with lesser physical ability.I was impressed with how he looked out for those that might lag behind. The accommodations were very satisfactory.I found the lunches that he organized were quite extraordinary.I am completely satisfied with the monetary value of my Salamander tour, and would not hesitate to book another trip.Dave was also able to placate some of the more unreasonable clients.

A few critiques…. I felt like the guidance that came in the email about the hike did not match the guidance we got from our guide once we arrived. The email made it seem walking poles were a matter of taste. But frankly, they were an absolute must. This should have been better communicated in the first email. Second, a few words about our guide (Dave). I think he was a nice enough guy and I didn’t have any problem with his personality. He got us from place to place safely… but that was literally it. Things he could have done better in my opinion. - advice (how to pack on certain days based on changing weather) - checking in with us (getting feedback on everything from pace to lunches) - inspiration (I felt no connection with him. This was a tough physical and mental challenge. Fostering a team spirit was something our group did but entirely without his help).

The views were an awesome experience. Some were breathtaking! Our guide, Oli was great and kept the group together on steep descents for safety reasons. My only suggestion would be that pre-made sandwiches would available for lunch picnics as opposed to distributing the cold cuts, cheese, tomatoes, condiments and baguettes to be carried in everyone’s backpack. Overall, I felt the tour was fairly priced and was a great trip.
