“Austria-Leitchenstein 2024! Fabulous group of multinational trekkers led by guide Nigel. Salamander nailed this one- so scenic , few tough days but overall a great mix of terrain- everything in between grassy meadow strolls, gravel paths, paved roads through Austrian villages, steep rocky ascents, cables and bridges built on sides of cliffs! If you are in good hiking shape this is a great one!! We saw Ibex, Chamois, Marmots and shared our trails with cows, sheep, goats and horses! So fun!! Day 8 was memorable- having lunch at the Alpspitz and then hiking with the use of cables with views down into the Rhine Valley and over into Switzerland! Hats off to Nigel for keeping us safe and on track, and entertained under all weather conditions(sun, heat, fog, rain, snow).”

“Recently completed the fantastic Austria & Liechtenstein Trek. Thoroughly enjoyed the varied and exciting terrain of the Alps. We had a fit, experienced and fun group. “Our group of 4 completed the Tour Du Mont Blanc in September 2024 with Denis (our guide) through Salamander (11 days with 1 day break). We had a great time, enjoyed the arranged accommodations and food. The best part of the package was our guide Denis - he was extremely knowledgeable, attentive and personable. He had to deal with some challenges with our group, but to his credit he tackled them with flare and professionalism. He took care of us and ensured our spirits were high and all were having a good time even though he was under the weather himself. Thank you Denis!”

“Just finished the TMB with Denis as our guide. This was our second trek with Salamander Adventures. Last year we hiked Amalfi Coast. Denis is an amazing guide. Lots of history explained as we hiked. Denis did a great job of keeping the group together and energized. He was very good about explaining what our terrain was like each day and kept us on a reasonable schedule. He’s also very enthusiastic and one can tell he loves his job. We plan to do another trip with Salamander in the future.”

“I recently completed the Austria/Lichenstein trek and I highly recommend. We had a great group of trekkers and were led by Nigel who was great with ensuring safety and bringing humor to the group. Scenery was spectacular. We had a fun day of hiking with cables, sometimes walked along a forest path and another day had one foot in Austria and another in Lichtenstein! Lodging included 2 hotels with spas which were nice. There was a good balance of hotels and huts. Salamander tours again did not disappoint.”

“Just returned from a fantastic TMB. Dennis, our guide, really made the whole trip both fun, enjoyable and safe. He made sure that he was checking in with everyone and meeting individual needs while at the same time ensuring that we worked well as a group. He had an incredible knowledge not only of the TMB but the flora, fauna and history of the various countries that we walked through. All the hotels and hostels were a very good standard and the food was delicious (catered very well for me as a pescatarian). Would definitely book with Salamander again!”

“I have just returned from the Dolomites Traverse with Salamander. The scenery was spectacular and of a scale that is difficult to describe. We had an excellent guide in Jasmin. She was capable, warm, friendly, fit and knowledgeable about the region. We experienced some very unseasonal weather for September. This included both snow, wind and rain. Our guide had to rejig the planned route, and we did not make it to one of the refugios because of the snow. All of the hotels we stayed in were excellent. The refugios were crowded and had more people sleeping in one dormitory, but that was part of the Dolomite experience, and I enjoyed those stays. The food was excellent both in the hotels and in the refugios. The checklist provided by Salamander in advance of our departure was comprehensive. Had we known we would run into snow and heavy rain, I would have added a few items, but we survived! The Dolomites Traverse is a challenging course with steep ascents and switchbacks. This demands plenty of preparation in advance and good levels of fitness. I found the descents more challenging than the ascents, and many of our group members used walking poles. The underfoot conditions can vary from very rocky to smooth woodland trails. The scenery is spectacular and makes up for the difficulty of the traverse. Overall, this was a very enjoyable trip. There was great camaraderie in our group of fourteen. We had an excellent guide. I came home exhausted but happy to have had such an experience in the Dolomites.”

“My husband and I completed the Austria – Liechtenstein trek and thoroughly enjoyed the trip with our fantastic guide and fellow hikers. This was our third trip with Salamander and yet the trip exceeded our expectations. We travelled through varied terrain and enjoyed superb views. Some parts were challenging, yet manageable. As always, Salamander attended to our enquiries promptly. Nigel our guide was superb in facilitating the trip and looking after us. We were very happy to put our trust in Salamander and Nigel. We look forward to future adventures with Salamander.”

“I completed the Dolomites traverse in September and the whole trip was a joy from start to finish. The organisation by Salamander was excellent throughout and our guide, Jasmin, was outstanding. Jasmin is a native of the Dolomites and her knowledge of the area was comprehensive. Unfortunately we had to change plans on a couple of days due to snow on the higher ground but Jasmin continually reviewed the situation and, where possible, gave us options. This also involved some changes to our accommodation but the team at Salamander worked hard together to make sure that none of this impacted our enjoyment of what was a wonderful holiday. Jasmin continually updated us on the status and offered her expert opinion on the best choices with safety being her prime consideration. She led with patience, kindness and always a smile. Thank you Jasmin. My thanks also go to my fellow travellers who made the holiday a memorable experience.”

“It was a great experience. Despite the weather which changed the dynamics of the trip, the walks were possibly more enjoyable and we could enjoy the beautiful scenery thanks to Jasmines choices.. She worked extremely hard to facilitate the group and was pleasant and accommodating. The best guide I have come across . Hold on to her… I hopefully will be travelling with you again…”

“I would like to thank Jasmin and Phil for all the work they did to get us around(hikes,transportation and lodging)the early snow fall. Jasmins first priority was always the safety of the group from the start to the end of the trek. She explained what to expect every morning and evening. After TMB and Dolomites trek with Salamander I would highly recommend them.”

“The quality of Guide Ollie was superb The quality of the Hotels was excellent, as was the food. But....our Itinary had to be changed due to snow, but alos some of the group had not the capabilities to complete the traverse. I was dissapointed by this as the booking notes di9d stipulate that participants neede to be capable of all aspects of the terrain etc, including artificial aids such as ladders etc. The traverse did noy involve true Via Ferrata but in places participants neede to be confident on such aids. Once the snow fell many became very wary, I am capable and was frustrated at times. Ollie was excellent, but do clients need to stipulate skills etc? It has put me off booking with Salamander Adventures again, but put me off being guided by Ollie. In fairness to your company alternative accomodation was booked, taxis where needed and busses used... however the cost of chair lifts ands cable cars was saved.”

“The guide was very professional. Diplomatic and kind with all the group members. Disappointed that due to the weather conditions we didn't get to climb to our last refugio. Having done TMB 10 years ago and Dolomites now with Salamander Adventures, I would highly recommend them.”

“The trek was wonderful but challenging. Our guide was essential as the weather was poor for several of the hiking days and self guideing would have been very difficult. Food and accommodations were generally good, with the auberges struggling a bit with their dinner offerings.”

“Our group of 13 really enjoyed the TMB experience we completed Sept 4 to 14. The pre-arranged accommodations and food were a good mix of levels (from more luxurious and gourmet to shared rooms/bathrooms and basic food) so that we felt we were experiencing a wider range of mountain life - the variety added to the Adventure without compromising comfort. We encountered sun, rain, snow and sleet and our guide was very helpful with suggestions of how to stay safe, adjust clothing, use hiking poles and other hiking tips. The beauty of the mountains and flora all around us , even with inclement weather, made this trip amazing. What a wonderful sense of accomplishment at the finish.”

“This was my first guided tour ever and I had a very positive experience-it may have changed my thinking about the value of guided tours! Pete our guide was so professional and considerate—he really helped to bring the group together and carefully balanced the varying skill levels of our group members. The hotel and meal selection hit the right balance of luxury and value, and logistics overall were very smooth. Pre-trip communication was also clear.”

“Just completed TMB with Pete, who is extremely knowledgeable on TMB treks and villages/history, which made the trip very rewarding. Pete attended to everyone in the group, and adjusted the trip in order to accommodate to various fitness levels within the group. We encountered 2 wet days on the trek, and Pete prepared us well, so we were comfortable with hiking in the rain and reached the destination safely. Pete's passion and leadership guided all of us to complete the trek as a team! I'm looking forward to having more adventure trips with Salamander.”

“My husband, daughter and I just finished Salamander's incredible TMB Guided Tour with the amazing guide, Pete Meyers. Pete is extremely organized, personable, knowledgable and supportive. He made it possible for all members of our small group to trek the TMB at a comfortable pace with frequent breaks and lunch picnics, all while meeting everyone's needs. This was a gift as Pete addressed the needs of those who were super experienced, advanced hikers to those, like my family, who were less advanced or new to multi-day treks. Pete demonstrated kindness, support and exlemplary, positive leadership. We learned a ton from Pete about the area's history and flora and fauna. The accomodations were all very clean and comfortable, even the simpler ones like the auberge in Trient didn't disappoint but added to the character of the trip. The Hotel Splendid in Champex Lac and the Hotel Chemenaz in Les Contamines Montjoie were group favorites -- the food there was exceptional! Thank you Phil and Pete for an unforgettable journey. We hope to return for another Salamander adventure soon!!”
