Salamander is one of the very best tour companies that I ever joined. I was really impressed by the itinerary for the TMD, every hotel was great, each meal breakfast and dinner was way exceed my expectation. Our tour guide Alfonso was totally amazing , professional, friendly and very helpful. he knows every trail, make sure everyone was safe . I lost my sunglasses at one point, he ran back to where I might lost my sunglasses, looked back and forth , tried to find it for me. I truly appreciated Salamander made my “Tour du Mont Blanc” such a great and memorable experience . The mountains are very beautiful, and Salamander made it even better! For sure I will join another adventure with Salamander again in the future!

We completed the TMB in July as a part of a mixed group of 11 people. Our guide Alfonso was brilliant, spoke 5 languages, carried lots of information and knowledge in his brain as well as reference books for things he didn't know. On the whole we found the accommodation and meals were good, though one of hotels would have been better if it were more central to town, especially as it was on our rest day. The 1st mountain hut was also very noisy so not easy to get the good nights sleep you need for these big days. Alfonso did a great job of keeping the group entertained and motivated, though he found our different ability levels and approach to the hikes a challenge at times. We were blessed with incredible weather, hardly a cloud in the sky and no rain. The wildflowers were beautiful but we still had snow as well - a magical combination. We thought the trip was good value, especially compared to other companies we researched, and we would have no problem recommending them to others, in fact we're already considering their Dolomites hike for next year.

Hi Alison. Thank you very much for reviewing your trek on the Tour du Mont Blanc. Alfonso Gallego is a wonderful Hiking Guide - we love the ice cream photo of him! I have taken note of your comment about the hotel out of town. I am glad you had good weather and the wild flowers were out. We look forward to seeing you in the Dolomites! Salamander Adventures Team

We hiked the TMB in July 2026. The trek was tough as the weather was hot, but we managed to get round! The hotels were great, apart from the 3rd night: we had been warned by Salamander that it was basic, and we understand there are no alternatives in that location, but I'm still not great without a private bathroom! The luggage man was friendly and personable. We managed to swim at some hotels and at Champex Lac! A great journey.

I can't say enough wonderful things about the Salamander Adventures Tour du Mont Blanc that I recently completed! It was 5 star in every way! Our guide Anna was incredible! She gave us detailed information on what to expect each day and organized all of the logistics so that we had a safe and fun adventure! The small size of the group was perfect in creating strong bonds of camaraderie. The lodging choices were excellent and food was plentiful and delicious! All we had to do was focus on the hikes and the incredible beauty of the area. I will be doing more of their adventures!

I recently completed the Norway trek. This is my 7th trek with Salamander; with my 5th guide. Again I walk away from the trip able to write a very good review and recommend Salamander tours. Norway is beautiful. The trek had us above the treeline most of the time so we were able to enjoy beautiful glaciers and waterfalls; plus many lakes and herds of reindeer. The trek was physically demanding and challenging. Most of the terrain was very rocky. And I trained prior. Salamander booked huts with 2 people per room; sometimes with bunk beds which included bedding and towels. Dry rooms were wonderful! Food was good and evening meal was often 3 course and many times included a local flair. Stiina our guide was wonderful, very capable and encouraged being part of a team. After the trek we booked excursions to see the beautiful Norwegian fjords, learn more about the Norwegian history and even experience a floating sauna. Thank you Salamander team for offering a trek in one of the National Parks in Norway.

We have just completed the TMB in a clockwise direction with your guide Oli. We had a fabulous time. The weather was superb, the overnight locations were comfortable and we were exceptionally well fed. Oli sussed out our group early on and gave us the opportunity to break away occasionally to walk on or pursue our birding/butterfly searches along the way. He was knowledgable and interesting and we enjoyed his company. We would definitely recommend him as a guide and would definitely recommend Salamander as an Adventure Operator. Yours sincerely Judy and Amanda

I recently completed a trek in the Dolomites and it was a five-star experience in every sense. Our guide, Jasmine, was extraordinary. Her concern for each individual, constant situational awareness, and thoughtful contingency planning made me feel completely safe and cared for throughout. Her daily briefings were clear and engaging, and her love for the mountains was contagious. Add to that her remarkable athleticism and steady leadership, and I couldn’t ask for a better guide. The scenery was breathtaking, the athletic challenge deeply satisfying, and the food was a revelation. Having regular coffee and hearty meals along the way is not something I’m used to from hiking in the United States, and it elevated the whole experience. Sharing those meals brought both comfort and delight, and added to the sense of adventure and connection. This trek exceeded every expectation.

I enjoyed the trip enormously, and although we were hiking around 120km, I found myself feeling refreshed going back to work. It was an amazing and beautiful trip! I loved the variety of walks and the challenging sections of the different trails. I specifically enjoyed the big boulders, and the chains, which some found challenging. The group size (8) was ideal. Stiina, our guide was excellent, informing us of what to expect the next day and guiding us towards the next accommodation; topping us up with lots of water from the streams, as we passed them. The accommodations were all great. The food was good, even for people with special dietary requirement. The huts made sure that everyone is catered for. It is best to have some lightweight house shoes with you, as you have to keep taking your boots off. The hotel in Oslo was situated near the Opera House and the centre, which is a perfect start and end of the trip. The bus ride to Jotunheimen was varied in scenery and so beautiful. You don’t realise that you are sitting on a bus for so long. It was my first trip with Salamander. I would highly recommend them as a company and also this trip.

Thank you to our guide, Stiina, and Salamander Adventures for offering the Norway, Jotunheimen-circuit! My expectations for superb scenery were high, and the breathtaking views did not fail to meet my expectations! Although rewarding, the hike was definitely rigoruous due to the extensive amount of rocks and boulders! I am glad that I had trained and was prepared to meet the challenging days! Well done Salamander for providing a very worthwhile adventure to your customers!

My wife and I (65 & 70 yo) chose to do the self guided TMB trek offered by Salamander. All of the information provided by Salamander was very helpful. Our luggage was always picked up and delivered as expected. The lodging accommodations were at least adequate in the case of the auberge and the hotels were quite nice, especially considering the locations. We did have a misadventure in La Palud/ Courmeyer however. We both got food poison at a cafe in Courmeyer. That put us off the trail for 48 hours. The staff at hotel Astoria, (accommodation chosen by Salamander) were super kind. Phil, from Salamander, offered helpful advice on how we could get transport from La Palud to Les Contamines in time to get back on our lodging schedule. Which allowed us to complete the last leg of the trek. Salamander provided quite detailed directions with basic maps for each leg of the trek. Their recomendations for detailed maps to purchase were spot on. Defintely at least get Rando edition : A1 Pays du MONT-BLANC 1 :50,000. Between the info/directions provided by Salamander and the trail markings en route the self guided option is very doable. Also, the trek is quite demanding, we did a lot of demanding hikes in preperation. So take that for what it's worth. Lastly the clockwise direction is a good choice. It does allow you to build up to the longer, harder, days at the end. You can talk to people you meet coming from the other direction and ask questions about the trail ahead. It was a great trip. We would reccommend Salamander to other travelers interested in such an adventure.

I did the TMB guided trek in early July and it was an unforgettable experience. The scenery was stunning —snow capped mountains, lush green meadows, wildflowers, rivers, alpine lakes with mirror-like reflections, and the sound of cowbells all around to keep us company. Our guide, Alfonso, was exceptional: knowledgeable, supportive, and incredibly thoughtful. He motivated me through tough descents, helped with my luggage when I was struggling with elbow pain, and even arranged special lunches for my diet needs. His encouragement made a huge difference. The trek is challenging with steep ascents and descents, especially some portions with rocky terrain but the sense of accomplishment each day is priceless. Overall great food, excellent hotels, and efficient communication through emails by Salamander adventures company — highly recommended! A couple of suggestions would be: Two guides would be better than one and though a celebratory wine was good at the end, a medal or certificate to each finisher would be a great souvenir to cherish. Overall, an excellent company that cares and I look forward to doing more treks with them in future.

It was a great hiking experience despite a bit challenging for an out of shape 71 year old man. The route was well planned and the guide was excellent. The accommodation and food were as good as it could be. Definitely value for the money.
