“Words are inadequate to explain the beauty and exhilaration experienced on this trip - everything was fantastic - guide, trek, food, accomodation. I enjoyed every single second. However, it was certainly made extra special by our expert Dolomiti guide, Jasmin. I highly recommend this trip and Jasmin!”

“We went on the Salamander Self Guided Tour in July 2026. The hike was amazing and we enjoyed it. We felt like the maps and instructions were unacceptable and we were in constant need of more information. Especially since we did the route backwards. Most of the hotel accomodations were very nice, however we did not enjoy the Hostel accomodation. My partner has a severe tomato allergy and we told the company ahead of time. Only one location acknoledged that they had even heard about this and had a plan to accomodate him. All other locations were not informed and the substitutions were sub par to say the least. The meals were thrown together without much thought. We met and enjoyed the company of the other 6 individuals who had also signed up for the same tour but it was never communicated that we were going to be spending the 10 days with them. It worked out fine, as everyone was nice but I would have appreciated the communication from the company.”

Dear Nadine Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am sorry to hear that you found the clockwise Route Notes difficult to use. They were written by a number of our Guides and are updated every year to reflect any local changes. Regarding your partner's tomato allergy, please be assured that we took this very seriously. We confirmed this requirement with every hotel from when you first booked and on a regular basis leading up to your trip. We encourage clients to contact us as soon as possible if there is a problem on their trek so we can intervene immediately. Unfortunately, you did not contact us once. We will follow this up with the hotels. When you book, you can see there are ‘x places available’ on your chosen date so it is inevitable that you will meet other Salamander clients trekking that week. However, you were under no obligation to mix with them: you were on a self-guided trek. I am glad to hear that you enjoyed the hotels and the trek overall, despite these frustrations. “Everything about our hike was excellent -Anna, our guide, the scenery, our accomodations, and our fellow hikers. We had no logistics issues and alternative options were offered, the few times they were needed. We loved the clockwise route, avoiding many of the crowds.”

“The Austria/Liechtenstein was fantastic! The varied terrain kept every day interesting, from beautiful valley walks to stunning days in the mountains. The huts were cozy and welcoming and the hotels were superb, as were all of the meals. Our guide, Nigel, was excellent and handled our group with humor and skill. The days were well organized, Nigel knew the route very well and kept us engaged and entertained for 9 days. The only thing I would change is cutting out the rest day in Feldkirch - I didn't feel that I needed it. The ascent of Naafkopf and Augustenberg on our last day were highlights. We had perfect weather and the views were stunning.”

“July on the TMB was absolutely amazing!! Salamander provided some excellent hotels to rest our weary legs after long days in the mountains. Passing people carrying HUGE rucksacks, made me grateful that we were having our luggage transferred so we just needed to take what we needed for the day. The trails can get busy in peak hiking season so it was definitely a bonus that Salamander go the opposite way round the TMB to the crowds. It meant that you pretty much had the trails to yourself in the morning and it wasn't until lunch time that your met the crowds going the other way. The afternoons also tailed off so it was possible to have a nice peaceful walk into your next location. The staff in all the hotels and auberges were really friendly and helpful. I'd particularly like to say a big thank you to staff at Hotel Astoria who couldn't have been more helpful when I needed to see a doctor. They rang around and arranged for a doctor to visit me at the hotel with some antibiotics, meaning I could continue to enjoy my trip!! We couldn't have asked for better weather to enjoy the stunning scenery. There was a WOW around every corner. What a fabulous way to enjoy hiking in beautiful locations and meeting new friends from across the globe! I'd definitely travel with Salamander again, keep up the good work!!”

“Austria & Liechtenstein Hiking Trip — September 2026 This was my first hiking trek with Salamander Adventures, and it turned out to be a truly wonderful and unforgettable experience. First of all, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Phil and Cathy for their quick responses and friendly service before the trip. Whenever I had a question or needed an adjustment, they were always helpful, responsive, and accommodating, which gave me great confidence and peace of mind before the journey began. Secondly, the eight-day hiking trip offered an incredible variety of trails, combining challenging hikes with truly breathtaking Alpine scenery. Some sections of the trails were steep and treacherous, which made the journey exciting and rewarding. Along the way, we were surrounded by magnificent mountains, forests, green meadows, and spectacular landscapes. These beautiful moments will stay in my memory for a very long time. Third, I would like to give special thanks to our tour guide, Nigel. He was always caring and attentive, listened to our concerns and needs, and made sure we were comfortable throughout the trip. He also took many wonderful photos for us, helping us preserve these unforgettable memories. Finally, I really enjoyed staying in the hotels and mountain huts throughout the journey. Each place had its own unique character. Some were very cozy, with a distinctive Alpine charm, while others were nestled beautifully in the Austrian Alps, surrounded by peaceful mountain villages, forests, and green meadows. The mountain huts had a warm, family-style atmosphere that made me feel right at home. Overall, I am very grateful to Salamander Adventures for organizing such a wonderful trip. From the excellent pre-trip service, challenging and spectacular hikes, caring guide, beautiful accommodations, to the unforgettable scenery and memories, this was truly a special experience. “This was our third trekking adventure with Salamander, and once again, we came home with wonderful memories and an unforgettable experience. As with our previous two trips, everything was thoughtfully arranged, and we truly enjoyed the places where we stayed. Some of the hotels were nestled in beautiful historic villages, where centuries of history seemed to live quietly alongside everyday life. We also especially enjoyed our nights in the mountain huts. Staying so close to the hut owners, sharing their warm hospitality, and enjoying the delicious food they prepared gave us a wonderful sense of connection to the mountains and the people who call them home. Our eight days of hiking were truly unforgettable. The routes took us through breathtaking landscapes, from peaceful valleys and alpine meadows to rugged mountain trails and dramatic ridgelines. The hikes offered just the right amount of challenge—enough to test our strength and perseverance, but also enough to remind us how much we are capable of. With every climb and every beautiful view, we felt that we were not only discovering the mountains, but also rediscovering a little more of ourselves. Our guide worked tirelessly to make the journey enjoyable, meaningful, and full of laughter. His knowledge and enthusiasm added so much to the experience. He encouraged us through the challenging moments while making sure we also stopped to appreciate the beauty around us and simply enjoy being there. After eight days on the trail, we returned home tired but deeply fulfilled, with a renewed sense of confidence, courage, and appreciation for the mountains. We would wholeheartedly recommend Salamander to anyone looking for more than just a hiking trip. Their journeys offer a wonderful combination of adventure, nature, culture, and human connection—and create memories that stay with you long after you return home.”

“Austria & Liechtenstein hike September 2026: Really enjoyed this hike. There was a variety of scenery from valleys to peaks. From casual walks through meadows to challenging exposed rocky trails. “I thoroughly enjoyed my Tour du Mont Blanc with Salamander Adventures. From the moment of booking, 8 months prior, their comms were excellent. Our guide Anna was extraordinary. She is ultra experienced, supported us at every step of our journey and was extremely thorough in checking the weather forecast, briefing us every night and morning and making considered decisions accordingly. Plus she was fun to walk with and many a story were shared by Anna and my fellow hiking companions. Thank you Anna and Salamander Adventures for helping me achieve the Tour du Mont Blanc and a wonderful 10 days.”

“The TMB was awesome! While having everything planned out and a guide to make sure we stayed on schedule made the trek seamless. Peter, our guide was a perfect fit for our group. He stayed engaged and made sure we knew what to expect before we started out each day. Peter was also had a wealth of information about the areas we passed through. Peter and Salamander Adventures made our trek both smooth and seamless. I would not hesitate to trek with them again.”

“Thank you Salamander Trek for making this TMB adventure a dream come true. It was truly an unforgettable experience. The whole trip was very well organized. The accomodations were beautiful, relaxing, and conducive for good quality rest...not to mention the amazing food. Biggest thank you goes to our extraordinary expert guide Peter Myers. Pete was truly knowledgeable about the mountains. Since day one Pete made sure that we'd all have a wonderful experience. This was my very first long-distance trek experience--call me a novice hiker--I was excited, but also nervous. Having Pete coach us on what to expect really put my mind at ease. At our nightly group meetings, Pete would have his TMB map and explain how the trail will be for the next day, which was very helpful. Pete made sure everyone was safe. Our pace was never to slow or too fast, but always enough time to experience and enjoy all the beautiful views. I am very happy to have chosen Salamander Trek for this big adventure and I look forward to more in the future. (TMB: 15/07/26)”

“Salamander is one of the very best tour companies that I ever joined. I was really impressed by the itinerary for the TMD, every hotel was great, each meal breakfast and dinner was way exceed my expectation. Our tour guide Alfonso was totally amazing , professional, friendly and very helpful. he knows every trail, make sure everyone was safe . I lost my sunglasses at one point, he ran back to where I might lost my sunglasses, looked back and forth , tried to find it for me. I truly appreciated Salamander made my “Tour du Mont Blanc” such a great and memorable experience . The mountains are very beautiful, and Salamander made it even better! For sure I will join another adventure with Salamander again in the future!”

“We completed the TMB in July as a part of a mixed group of 11 people. Our guide Alfonso was brilliant, spoke 5 languages, carried lots of information and knowledge in his brain as well as reference books for things he didn't know. On the whole we found the accommodation and meals were good, though one of hotels would have been better if it were more central to town, especially as it was on our rest day. The 1st mountain hut was also very noisy so not easy to get the good nights sleep you need for these big days. Alfonso did a great job of keeping the group entertained and motivated, though he found our different ability levels and approach to the hikes a challenge at times. We were blessed with incredible weather, hardly a cloud in the sky and no rain. The wildflowers were beautiful but we still had snow as well - a magical combination. We thought the trip was good value, especially compared to other companies we researched, and we would have no problem recommending them to others, in fact we're already considering their Dolomites hike for next year.”

“We hiked the TMB in July 2026. The trek was tough as the weather was hot, but we managed to get round! The hotels were great, apart from the 3rd night: we had been warned by Salamander that it was basic, and we understand there are no alternatives in that location, but I'm still not great without a private bathroom! The luggage man was friendly and personable. We managed to swim at some hotels and at Champex Lac! A great journey.”

“I can't say enough wonderful things about the Salamander Adventures Tour du Mont Blanc that I recently completed! It was 5 star in every way! Our guide Anna was incredible! She gave us detailed information on what to expect each day and organized all of the logistics so that we had a safe and fun adventure! The small size of the group was perfect in creating strong bonds of camaraderie. The lodging choices were excellent and food was plentiful and delicious! All we had to do was focus on the hikes and the incredible beauty of the area. I will be doing more of their adventures!”

“I recently completed the Norway trek. This is my 7th trek with Salamander; with my 5th guide. Again I walk away from the trip able to write a very good review and recommend Salamander tours. Norway is beautiful. The trek had us above the treeline most of the time so we were able to enjoy beautiful glaciers and waterfalls; plus many lakes and herds of reindeer. The trek was physically demanding and challenging. Most of the terrain was very rocky. And I trained prior. Salamander booked huts with 2 people per room; sometimes with bunk beds which included bedding and towels. Dry rooms were wonderful! Food was good and evening meal was often 3 course and many times included a local flair. Stiina our guide was wonderful, very capable and encouraged being part of a team. After the trek we booked excursions to see the beautiful Norwegian fjords, learn more about the Norwegian history and even experience a floating sauna. Thank you Salamander team for offering a trek in one of the National Parks in Norway.”
