Avoid Mazuma Accounting at All Costs! Let me be clear: steer clear of Mazuma and their so-called "accountants." They are cheap for a reason! The senior management is utterly clueless, and when problems arise, don’t expect any support. We went through four different accountants in just a year, and it's painfully obvious they’re still in training. Their incompetence led to our tax returns being filed incorrectly, resulting in a fine from HMRC. This was entirely Mazuma’s fault, and we’ve lost money due to their blatant lack of care and attention. For a business that touts an “outstanding owner” and “award-winning” status, it’s shocking that they’re still operating. Save your money and look elsewhere! They constantly chase new business and beg for recommendations, but if you value your company, don’t even think about engaging with them—no matter your business size! You’ve been warned!

Despite paying for their services, my tax return for the last tax year is still not completed, even though it should have been done months ago. They frequently make promises to follow up but rarely do, leaving me constantly in the dark. They’ve also made serious errors, including submitting an incorrect tax return that missed crucial income. I had to personally intervene to resolve the issue with HMRC. On top of that, they’ve had ongoing technical issues that prevented them from properly managing my account for months, yet they still haven’t provided clear updates or resolutions. Recently, they asked me to find discrepancies in my own records, even though they already have all the necessary information. It’s unacceptable to be asked to do their job for them. The lack of communication, accountability, and professionalism has made working with them stressful and frustrating. If you’re looking for reliable accounting services, I would recommend avoiding this company. They’ve failed to meet even basic expectations and have caused far more stress than they’ve solved.

I think it's important for anyone reading the 5-star reviews on here that they look seriously at the poorer ratings. As a client for 3 years, we had a similar positive initial experience as others described, but this quickly lost ground and soured, as every May we would have our accounts ready for review, but Mazuma would leave it up until the last minute of the 31AUG deadline to work on them....and I mean so last minute that it wouldn't give us enough time to check they met our expectations. So for 3 years in a row our deadlines were extended to November, when they would again be completed by Mazuma at the last minute. We've now decided to move to another firm, rather than waste another year with this, but even that is proving challenging, as nobody is ever available to take a call except reception (who can contribute very little), and don't expect anyone to return your calls. Our new accountant is also struggling to get access to the handover materials. Mazuma’s accountants are polite when you can get them on the phone, but the communication upkeep & response is terrible. In addition, they promise to advise you about taxes and support your business strategy, but we never received any such support. They are cheap accountants suitable for those who use only their software. They are not compatible with market leading software like Xero or Quickbooks despite their sales team saying they were at introduction. This is because they have a policy not to touch any other software, so all the data has to be downloaded and translated into their own tool.

They consistently fail to process accounts on time, they do not adhere to the contract, they make mistakes in the infomation they provide, they need constant chasing and according to the call 8 have just had, managers do not take calls from clients.

IF LIZ AND KWASI RAN AN ACCOUNTANCY FIRM - THIS WOULD BE IT. Ah, Mazuma Accountants—the epitome of a "stress-free accountancy service." (As advertised) If by stress-free, you mean pulling your hair out as they scramble to file VAT returns at the very last minute and casually submit your company accounts some four months after what their T&C's state , then yes, they're nailing it. Having finally extricated myself and company from their services. I had wanted to do this months ago but due to the fact they had not completed the 2023 Year end accounts, it meant an elongated exit strategy. Having made numerous complaints about their abysmal service they agreed to refund me 3 months subscription. Unfortunately they only paid 2 months until I brought this error to their attention , so maths doesn’t appear to be a strong suit. I still have my directors tax return unresolved but have decided to sort that out myself, like my last quarters VAT return. They assured me that I wouldn't have to worry about a thing, and they were right—because I was too busy panicking to worry. Communication? Barely existent. Organisation? Nonexistent. If you're in the market for accountants who turn your financial management into a rollercoaster ride, Mazuma's your perfect match. Otherwise, run far, far away!

To start, please read the 1 star reviews, they are detailed on the companies shortfalls. It is with regret that I must write this review, however, the internal inability to reply to any form of communication means I must. I have been a client for 10 years, and until the last year it has been a positive experience. However, of late: - 'Monthly' envelopes go untouched for 6 months - Emails ignored repeatedly - Significant errors in the actual accounting - debits logged as credits etc - Income attached to the envelopes ignored and just assumed - A different 'accountant' each time I make contact, it appears to be a merry go round of staff, with no one knowing what the other one has done It appears that this is now the norm with this company. Phones ring out, emails to the 'pod' email are just ignored, different accountant every time. I pay this company to process my accounts, it should not be on me to review their work, and correct their errors! Truly incompetent It is a real shame, as the concept is great. However, the company’s inability to reply to any e-mails, or stick to any form of acceptable SLA is a reason to not risk your accounts with them. Sadly, they appear to be more focussed on generating new customers, than looking after their existing ones. I used to refer without hesitation, no longer, as they are a company to avoid if you value your sanity and want accurate and efficient accounts. I do not know what has happened to this company, I think that they have set their sights on growth, and have ignored their client base. My new accountants are also struggling to get any information from them.

Please don't believe any of the 5 star reviews for this company as they are all completely fake. This company is an absolute shambles. Every single one of the one star reviews chimes with our experience. I have NEVER, EVER dealt with such charlatans. Despite paying them to do so, they NEVER submitted our tax returns and as a result, we've had to pay over £400 in late fees from HMRC. Then we had to pay over £600 to get 3 tax returns done so we wouldn't have to keep paying fines to HMRC. And whilst Mazuma were causing all this nightmare for us, we were still being charged £38 a month for NOTHING! So, we've had to pay out over £1000 because of the sheer incompetence of this company. They NEVER answer their phones or reply to emails. The stress this company have caused me has been awful and I ended up on medication as a result. If I could save one small company from the stress I have encountered as a result of being a Mazuma company, then I'd feel relieved as I'd never want anyone else to experience what me and many, many others have encountered. And if you are unsure I am being accurate, please read all the other 1 star reviews and you will see they are all complaining about the same issues. I have also raised a claim in the small claims court to try and recoup money I have paid them and I have also raised a complaint with Trading Standards and with ICAEW as I don't think Mazuma should get away with treating people this way. I truly honestly hope they go out of business as they are complete charlatans and only interested in taking money. They are the WORST company I have dealt with in two 20 years I have been in business. Avoid like the plague!

I signed up with Mazuma Accountants at the end of July 2023 following the great sales pitch from the salesman. I had to pay a fee to catch up with the previous months of my financial year which I expected. The service started off well and I would get responses from my accountant in a reasonable timescale of around 48 hours. All communication stopped and I couldn't get hold of my accountant for 2 weeks. After sending multiple emails I was eventually told my accountant had left the company and I would be dealing with 3 other accountants going forward. Unfortunately this is when the service went downhill. Mazuma Accountants are very poor with communication and most emails don't get a response and if they do it's a generic response where they have not read my previous email. The phoneline is a waste of time and if someone answers it's the call centre who then can't get hold of any accountants to talk to. Here a few of Mazuma's failures from the past year: - I was advised I had to pay for two self-assessments when I only needed one. - Mazuma missed my self-assessment and blanked me so I had to do it myself. I've been waiting since January for a refund of £240 but they haven't given it to me. - Mazuma sent me someone else's VAT return late on a Friday afternoon before the Sunday VAT deadline, so I had to do my own VAT return. - Mazuma sent me an end-of-year accounts file to sign with lots of missing information for 2022-2023. They asked me to sign it even though it was incorrect, but I didn't trust that they would correct it afterwards. My accounts are two months past my deadline for my end-of-year accounts. I have received a letter saying my company will be struck off within 14 days if they are not submitted. I have sent 6 emails and made over 10 phone calls trying to get this sorted, but I have just been sent the original incorrect file. I have repeatedly asked for someone to call me, but I've been offered to book a call with an accountant in 2 days' time when this is very urgent. At this stage I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I'm also waiting for my 2023-2024 accounts to be completed. - I have had debt collectors contact me about HMRC fees that I did not know I had to pay. - I have not had any monthly accounts completed since December. Mazuma have given me no useful tax advice and everything is reactive instead of proactive. As a business owner I don't take leaving bad reviews lightly but I can honestly say Mazuma has given me the worst service I have ever received and have caused me so much stress over the last year. I wish I didn't sign up with Mazuma and I would advice anyone reading this to look elsewhere. I'm sure Mazuma will reply to this saying someone will contact me from the service team but I don't have any faith they will resolve this.

Awful service, spent all week trying to make contact with them to confirm my self assessment was in hand. Finally spoke to someone today, with 7 hours until deadline to tell me they weren't doing it. I have numerous unanswered emails since joining them. I would not recommend them under any circumstances.

I was offered £145 for my phone which I accepted. I sent the phone to Mazuma who then reduced the offer to £45 which I rejected as the phone was in very good condition. A day later I received an email from them offering me £90. Which tells me they are crooks! Never again.

I went with Mazuma because I had cripplingly anxiety about taxes and you know what they did get me over my fear of the HMRC! They just did it by losing me 20k in the pandemic in SEISS grants, incorrect tax, fines, bankrupting my business and ending up on Universal Credit because when I joined they were basically a MLM and no one was an actual accountant. I did not know there was no legal definition in England and Wales for who could call themselves an accountant and a similiar disabled freelancer recommended them. I figured the fact the promised tech was a bit Atari 87 and they spelled all three of my names wrong was just life right? Don't sweat the small stuff with these boss babes. Then the freak combo of a pandemic and me almost dying of a totally unrelated illness. They made a mistake and from there dug in. No surrender like auditioning to join the DUP. I can't really tell you the whole story because my lawyer and the police advised against it or using my real name here after the 14 month long BARRAGE of harassment and bullying when I tried to resolve things. Weird social media follows and brigading, 7 different calls on a day I had been hospitalised by the stress of it until I broke down crying and begging them to stop, birthday cards, over 75 phone calls unrelated, countless emails until they were stopped promising Amazon vouchers if I referred X number people and they posted press about how negative clients are 'oof boarded' to keep their mental health good. They do a very good subject access request under GDPR though. Tip top. I get the feeling not their first time. They knew through out I had a life threatening illness and kept insisting I wanted special treatment. I wanted reasonable adjustments like HMRC disability helpline which is hardly Make-a-Wish. They didn't make me sick but they did nearly make me homeless. I then spent what I wasn't sure where my last months in an alphabet soup where HMRC were so aghast about their behaviour I had to contact CAB, then they had me off to Trading Standards, the ICAEW to see how they could not be overseen by any accountancy body. They refused to engage with my lawyer and basically dragged the complaint out because they figured in their words 'you don't have long'. My lawyer advised I had a great case but honestly he didn't want to take it they were so upsetting to deal with and he feared it would break me. We both walked away from the money for our sanity. Mazuma are like an abusive relationship. So unprofessional that when I had to apply to the DWP I could not believe how kind and efficient they were in comparison. Imagine? Your business makes the Department of Work and Pensions look cuddly? Yikes on a bike. I really wanted to hold them accountable, mistakes happen. Cruelty is a choice though. An apology, some pleasantries. They go a long way. That said their T&Cs do seem to be a reply to every issue I raised and all those orgs that might have been my bucket list. I will live and I decided that better to put my energies into rebuilding my career. When I emailed to end my contract, I got 19 phone calls and emails and each time I saw their name I started crying. 20 hospital admissions in two years and a bunch of Welsh women with poorly written Word documents is what broke me. But I no longer fear the HMRC, my admin skills are now amazing and their nonsense has given me CV skills like no one's business so one extra star for an exposure therapy style so brutal Channel 4 would film it. I feel so incredibly embarrassed to have been sucked in by Mazuma. I thought I could spot MLM huns. I would not be that idiot who bought overprice leggings. I was that idiot who hired them to be my accountant. I felt so stupid I almost didn't tell anyone because who would believe me? Turns out a lot of legal organisations did, but I still don't feel any less ashamed of being so trusting of their sales pitch and discounting the red flags. I wish Ann Robinson still did Watchdog. Bet they'd respond very differently to her than my working class South Asian lawyer from Luton...

I've been working with Cerys and Chloe ever since my old accountant stole a lot of money from my company and left the companies filings in a mess with HMRC! They've gone above and beyond to not only make sure my companies filing are up to date and accurate but also reassure me in what has been an extremely overwhelming and anxious time. I have never written a review because although they have been good accountants, they have done what I expect from a professional company. As the managing director of a limited company in the UK, I wanted to outsource my finances and luckily found Mazuma who took charge of bookkeeping, VAT returns, and much more. The customer service team at Mazuma is fantastic. I recently spoke with Claire about some questions I had about my VAT returns and she looked into everything I asked and got back to me really quickly. Generally, they are always happy to help and are very friendly. I highly recommend Mazuma as they take all of the stress out of accounting. Thank you!
