“I am currently at Japanese level 3 with Cactus. the group lessons are well structured and engaging. Our tutor give us good time to practice our speaking and listening skills via group exercises. I like also the fact that our tutor give us facts about Japanese cultures from time to time while explaining how the culture affects the way certain things are being said. I feel that I am progressing at a good pace and I will keep going with Cactus in my next continuation course.”

“Excellent teacher, really knows his students. Central location in Manchester is hugely convenient. Course materials are easy to access. The website isn't always very clear regarding what course to enrol on or continue with, but if you do make a mistake (as I have done) an email to the Cactus team sorts it out very quickly.”

“I enjoyed the lessons however I Cactus did not deliver on the 10 lessons promised as after we had completed 9 my tutor was informed that she had to carry out the 10th in a pub! Quite outraged as given the tutor was a volunteer. I don't know what I'm paying for if Cactus can't provide us with a classroom.”

We are sorry to hear of your experience. However, we need to point out that none of our teachers are volunteers. All of our teachers are paid professionals. In very rare circumstances when a course occasionally over-runs due to absence and our facilities are not available, we may need to find an alternative location, such as a library. “Brilliant - I am learning German and Portuguese. I loved the face to face courses before pandemic but as you get higher in proficiency level it was difficult to find enough people locally to form a class so online class is a brilliant solution. I still feel like we have a little community within each class even though we are located all over UK.”

“Excellent teaching. The teacher provided was a native speaker of the language and was able to tailor the course around the group's needs and still managed to keep the lessons entertaining and enjoyable at the end of a busy day!”

“I have already done two conversation classes (competent level) with two different teachers and both courses have been really enjoyable. Lots of good and varied activities as prompts for discussions with useful quick recaps on certain grammar points. I went to Spain for a few days after the second course and found that my fluency had really improved. I have already enrolled for a third course.”

“I studied Japanese with Cactus. The course was great, very informative and well set out lessons. My teacher (Rie Wakayama) was amazing, cannot give her enough credit! She is so knowledgeable and set out the lessons perfectly. The homework was very helpful and all my questions were answered clearly. I have already signed up for the next course. 🙂”

“Absolutely loved the Portuguese beginner 2 with Sandra, immersive, good pace and great fun.Easy on line access with Zoom, small ,friendly group where we practice , I had tried apps previously but needed the grammatical structure.Already booked my next Portuguese course as I want to continue to learn & improve 👍.Highly recommend Cactus!”
