I wish I had read these reviews before booking with them. Driver failed to show up and hours after repeated reportings and using their “instant service” (not) they sent an email stating the driver has unassigned themselves and they couldn’t find a replacement. They don’t have a contact number so unable to reach. This had added to the already stressful situation which is moving. They have poor communication and deeply unprofessional approach. Avoid like the plaque!

We regret leaving negative feedback but we are really dissatisfied with the service, the main reason being that the service was canceled without informing us. In addition to this, the company does not have a telephone number or a live chat working 24/7, so customers cannot not get in contact with them in case of any issue or to ask for any updates. We strongly recommend not choosing this company and rather select a competitor who has a phone number for customer support. We report additional details on our story below, hoping that the lesson we learnt can be useful to others: We had used this service once in the past to move houses and it worked well, so we decided to book again with them. We booked two weeks in advance, and received a confirmation email. On the day of the service, the man with the van did not show up. We tried everything we could to get in contact, but there was no phone number on their website or social media pages, the "live" chat is actually not live as they reply 8 hours later, and they did not reply to messages sent to their Facebook page. After roughly one hour of waiting with no updates, we decided to make a last-minute reservation with a competitor (Anyvan). This unprofessional behaviour costed us additional money to book the alternative service, as well as it put pressure on us, as we ended up being roughly 5 hours late on our schedule and having to rush loading and unloading, notwithstanding the buffer time we had added while planning (we had arranged different services around the man with the van, such as childcare, and professional cleaning). We only heard back at 5:45pm on the same day (the service had been booked for 9am), as we received an email apologising for the inconvenience and saying that the man with the van had to cancel the job. We understand this can happen, but we would have expected a serious company to reach out to us as soon as they received the cancellation, and possibly instruct/support us to book an alternative service instead of leaving us alone stressing because of lack of information and updates. Money-wise, we have been fully reimbursed; however, we asked for additional compensation because of all the extra costs we incurred, but they have never replied to this requests.

The owner of this company, Jacob Corlett, owns many other companies, such as comparethemanandvan.co.uk, which was later renamed Shift, also tuffnells.co.uk/ and so on . He has not paid the drivers for three months of work, and it has now been over five months since we were last paid. Each of us is owed more than £9,000, which has left us unable to provide for our children and families. This situation is severely impacting the welfare and health of our families, as we are struggling without money or food. The government should take immediate action to help us. The problems caused by this man are immense—I've been unable to insure my van, get an MOT, pay for other insurances, provide food for my children, pay rent, cover helpers' wages, or pay taxes. Now, without any savings or money, I don't know what to do next. This is a basic human rights issue that affects people worldwide.

I would never ever use this service again. I am leaving a one star review as a clear warning to other consumers. There will be people who have had perfectly fine experiences using this company (this includes me, the last time I moved). However, my experience today was horrific and demonstrates precisely why I would never book a move through them again. You can draw your own conclusions. I booked online around 10 days in advance of my move. Found a driver who was available and well reviewed, booked and paid in full. The day before my move I received an email explaining the driver had changed but there was nothing to worry about. In fact it said "Thanks to the Compare the Man and Van Driver Promise, we have allocated another one of our trusted service providers for you" Sadly they don't keep their promises. On the morning of my move no one turned up. I looked at the "manage my booking" link and now a different 3rd drivers name was listed and it merely said he had been offered the job. There is no way to telephone compare man and van. They do not have a live chat function. In a moment where all of my worldly possessions were packed up I had no way of actually getting hold of a human being to help resolve the issue. I used their support function which is simply a contact form. I also sent an email to the escalations address listed on their Facebook account. Rather than anyone contacting me, the next email I got was a generic refund email from them. I was aghast at the customer service and immediately went into problem solving mode. I needed to move today and they had entirely let me down. Eventually I got sorted but not without a bunch more time and cost. I later received a fairly generic email stating that the driver had declined and offering me 25% off if I booked a new move within 48 hrs. A completely futile gesture for anyone who needs to move on the day that they planned to move. This company is not stupid. They know what the impact of this is. I reached out to them to complain and to request a settlement for the failure. The response I got demonstrated no empathy and put all responsibility on the driver who cancelled (I did point out that the company is perfectly capable of holding drivers that use its platform to account). My advice is to be very wary before using this company. I certainly won't ever use them again.

Booked this company for a house move. Confirmation email stated 8.30am but the online portal showed 10.30am and George Adams was the driver. 8.30am came and went, as did 10.30am and no sign of a van. Getting agitated by 11.00am, I reassured myself, and as stated in their policy, its possible that drivers could be an hr or so late during to traffic etc. Between 11.30 and 12.30 I sent 3 messages via online 'support' with no response. I then spent another half hr phoning around van-hire companies and eventually was able to book a van but couldn't collect until 3pm. Thanks to this atrocious company, I had wasted 6.5hrs, on what was already an extremely stressful day, before I could actually start moving! Laughingly,15hrs after my initial message via their 'support' function, I received an email starting: - A Quick Update on Your Query *15hrs is NOT quick! - We hope you’re having a wonderful festive season * No I am NOT! - If your driver is late, please try using the call feature in your tracking link to get in touch with them directly *there wasn't one! - If you’re due a refund, rest assured it’s being processed and will arrive in your bank account within 5 - 10 days * already offering a refund! - We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.*inconvenience is an understatement! I wouldn't have booked their service if I didn't need it! - To show our appreciation, we’d like to offer you 12% off your next booking with us *hahahaha!! Would NOT recommend!! Proper Scam , Stay away at all cost . Awful experience. Nobody showed up on the moving day , called the "booked driver" 5 times in the morning but nobody answered. Messaged and emailed the company 10 times , no answer whatsoever . Paid over 300 pounds and on the terms and conditions it says no refunds . 100% scam , they take your money and give you nothing. Can't believe this is legal in UK .

I booked a driver to move some furniture 6 miles across town. On the day of the move, the driver called and informed me that he would not be able to show up because the company owed him a lot of money and had not paid him. As a result, no one arrived, and I could not reach anyone to get my money back. This company is a scam. They con people

Horrible Experience, No Customer Service They left me stranded without helping to resolve the issue. The driver showed up with a van that was too large to fit in the garage entrance. He told me they would send a new van and advised me to contact customer service...but they never replied. I waited for 4 hours, and they disappeared! I had to book with a different company at the last minute! STAY AWAY!

Avoid with prejudice! Driver called the evening before to state they would not be able to meet the agreed (and paid for) timescale, due to childcare commitments. I understand life can get in the way sometimes so I agreed to alter the times slightly. It was later revealed when the driver was unable to make the designated drop off time that it was due to the drop off and pickup for school. Not a childcare issue. So a complete lie despite accepting the job 3 days prior, knowing full well the specified timescale. At the delivery end the driver attempted to charge an extra fee due to there being 'too many items'. When challenged on why this was not raised upon loading of the vehicle they were unable to state why. They also turned up in a smaller vehicle than I had paid for. It is my understanding that the two main factors for a booking on comparethemanandvan.co.uk are items (size of vehicle required) and time (how long you may require their services). Neither of these criteria were met. The driver and his 'helper' damaged several items (upwards of £700 worth of damage) and proceeded to ask me to utilise my own insurance as they would not use theirs. The driver flatly refused to provide any details and has broken all contact. Support from comparethemanandvan.co.uk is wholly lacking. Stating their T&C's and how they are not responsible for damages. However, when driver details are requested they have sent the bare minimum (mobile number and email. Both of which I had from the booking). Stated they do not hold insurance details for drivers. Despite on the website it clearly stating 'Fully Insured Drivers' and under driver ratings it lists the information they have received from the driver (in my case insurance documents). This website are not doing their due diligence with drivers. An expected level of care and skill is required and accountability for drivers conduct should be ensured! Very poor service all round and would highly recommend to avoid!

Shockingly poor. Booked many days ahead to facilitate a flat move. Paid in full. When no-one arrived I tried in vain to contact through the platform and with the mobile number provided for the driver. Mobile Dead, no-one responding on platform. Hurriedly attempted to acquire a real and decent assistance of course at extra cost !! Was subsequently contacted (eventually) by someone claiming to be the driver who was still not at my property and unlikely to be for over an hour. It's appalling. This website and company should be shut down.

I’m completely gutted. Only now when I’m reading all the reviews here then I know I got scammed!!! I’m moving in 30 hours and the driver’s info is still non-existent since 3 days ago and I could just tell something was wrong. I have been trying to contact them then realised there is no phone number no online instant chat but just an online “form” to fill. I did that 3 days ago and then panic-sending another 4 or 5 forms. Finally some Slindile from Support wrote me back saying my original driver I booked “rejected” my booking and now they are “trying” to find me another one. After reading all these reviews here I almost know for sure they won’t find me any drivers at all. May I know how can I get my money back? Any advice anyone?

This crooked company have now stopped paying their drivers. I have worked with my vans through Comparethemanandvan / Shift for over 3 years and have always had excellent customer feedback. When I started we were paid 7 days after completion of a job. Last year that was increased to 14 days, then 28 and then 42. Payments have now stopped, the reason given is "banking issues". I have now not been paid for a number of jobs going back over 60 days for an amount totalling a little over £1200.00 which I now don't ever expect to recover. They are still accepting bookings and customers money AND recruiting new drivers who are blissfully unaware that they will not be paid. Please don't risk your money by booking with this company.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. They cancelled my booking on the morning I was supposed to be moving and didn’t let me know until I frantically messaged them (they conveniently don’t have a phone number). They then said they could TRY and find another driver for me but it could be 7 hours after my original booking, of which my other storage unit I was sending my stuff to would have been closed. I’m shocked they are a working business, if you want a reliable service then do not go with this company. I would not want anyone else to endure the day I had due to their horrific service and they weren’t cheap either!

Terrible service, the cancellation policy I am sure is against UK law, I was assigned a new driver and cancelled 5, FIVE!! days ahead, their refund policy is beyond shocking. I started to read the reviews and could not afford having anyone turn up late due to legally having to be out of my house at a certain time due to the sale of the property. It's impossible to chat to anyone, feels like a total scam website and shocking business practice to pay ALL the money upfront, giving the customer NO POWER whatsoever. Avoid at all costs!!!

PLEASE AVOID! I don’t usually leave reviews but this was the most stressful moving experience I’ve ever had because of the lack of customer service and the removal men turned up 8 hours late!!! I was called 20minutes before they were meant to turn up saying the van broke down but they promised to no end that the new driver will be with me at 2pm at the very latest. I called at 2:30pm and was promised the driver was round the corner and arriving soon which I found out was a total lie. After struggling to get an answer and no one turning up I finally got hold of the actual drivers number who said he was still in London on another job!! So by this point I had lies on lies since 9am. They finally arrived at 6pm after all my helpers left. They even threatened to charge me more because of some nonsense reason after being rude and very unprofessional. The drivers had been on the job since 7am and clearly over worked and underpaid by the company. I ended up paying more to finish the next day as we couldn’t do it all in the one late evening. It delayed me hugely and I was so worried I was scammed all day. Please just spend the extra bit of money to get a proper removal company outside of this website.

This company took my payment of £409 but did not provide a confirmation email, and the service was not provided. There is no way at all of contacting them, part from writing a letter, which I have done three times without any response. Never, ever use them. They are thieves.
