Hi Demetra,
Thank you for your feedback; we are very sorry to hear that you have not found Orlistat to be an effective treatment for your weight loss journey.
I have escalated your feedback to our clinical team and they have advised that flatulence is a listed and expected side effect of Orlistat; it can be reduced by measuring how much fat you consume, in each meal (aim to consume no more than 1-15 grams of fat per meal).
Our clinical team has advised that the objective of Orlistat is to help reprogram your body and your behaviours to be able to maintain lifestyle changes; these include a varied low-fat diet (with portion control) and regular physical activity.
The expected weight loss is about 10% of your overall weight over 6 months; when this treatment is combined with a weight-reducing diet and exercise.
Orlistat only prevents some of the fat that you eat from being absorbed, just under a third.
This treatment has no effect on other calorie sources such as carbohydrates, sugars, and alcohol; it is important to be aware of how many calories you are consuming from other sources as well.
We have reached out to you directly and look forward to hearing from you.
