My last experience of chopping joints out for the purpose of repointing was almost 40 years ago and involved a lump hammer and chisel and the thought of disk grinding with all the dust travel generated didn't inspire me so to find this bit of kit after a bit of googling was a real win. I had some 23 year old mortar joints to fetch out which must have suffered frost damage at the point of laying as the joints had gradually eroded over the years and had become at least 10mm recessed. Chose to use mains grinder to save swapping batteries endlessly, had to make some modifications to the grinder as it was a Black & Decker around 35 years old, once done kit connected fine with Henry connected to the hose outlet. Cutting out the joints was a breeze for the most part with the odd hard part or wall tie end encountered, only used the 8mm bit so far as some of my joints are quite thin, and some perps were very tight so that tested the kit as most of the time it was cutting brick, extraction was excellent too as long as you gave Henry's bag a shake now and again, even without extraction the cutter does not create the dust travel experienced with disc grinding. I did try the kit on my Dewalt cordless grinder with the yellow shim but again modification would have been needed as there is a torx screw head stopping the base plate connecting. Overall very impressed with my soft joints, be prepared to resort to disc if you have tight perps or very hard mortar joints.

Great bit of kit, racking out a 60sqm patio with Henry hoover attached to Termite fitted to a Makita cordless grinder. Hard work at times but does a fantastic job with little to no mess. Very please and highly recommend.

Arrived promptly. Bosch angle grinder, appropriate spacing ring did not fit - be aware they are graduated in size, one should fit. As often is the case, I had to bodge the outlet to vac connection, is 32mm 'standard'? Why not offer options? In use, with 'moderately' regular mortar, very soft, I found the smaller 8mm cutter best. If needed, run the cutter back and forward after a 'forward' cut (which the vac clears best) to clean back to the brick. For edges, corners, 'tight' gaps, I used a 6mm masonry bit in my battery drill. Worked well. I cleared 9 sq metres in about 5 hours. The cutter showed signs of wear, but not significant. A good tool for the diy person.
