“I bought this especially for the hedgehog to use and it is perfect. It took the birds all of 5 minutes to find it and it has proved to be a great success even with our very shy green woodpecker.”

I'm sorry to hear that the bird bath didn't meet your expectations. It's disappointing when a product doesn't perform as intended, we haven't had any complaints about this specific product until now however we will keep an eye out and will definetly let the supplier know.
