“Whilst it is a good choice to buy, I haven't given it 5 because I would like to see more small seed in the mix as I have so many small birds visiting and to buy separate mixes is expensive.”
“I (that is to say the birds) have used this mix for some time.
Very nice clean-smelling (I should be a truffle-seeking piggie!)
Do note, however, that the mix has been milled more finely than in the past. Possibly the end of the run where finer particles settle near the bottom?
Not a problem, per se, but I would definitely dampen well before feeding as there seems to be more fine "dust" this time. Nothing wrong with the dusty element- all grist to the digestive mill.
Anyhow, the birds on the ground are not bothered and hoover up all that has been broadcast on the lawn with gusto!”
“Rather different from the other mixes but it will fill the avian bellies with sufficient instant nourishment, I think.
There is inevitably an element of dust in such mixes. Do not waste the finely ground fibrous "dust".
I wet with water, mix well and let sit for 20 -40 minutes to some hours. a few hand stirrings along the way. This allows the "dust" to absorb water as well as water being absorbed by some of the other, slightly cracked pieces.
Do not leave for many hours in warm weather, though! Did that once and I could have served beer- yeasts busy and I do not think birds' digestions are quite ready for that..”
