We loved our time at Dock Tarn Lodge and couldn't have asked for a better holiday. The setting in Neaum Crag estate was stunning and we made the most of daily hikes from our doorstep. There was so much to explore locally but also very easy access to other parts of the Lakes. Having Loughrigg Tarn on our doorstep was really special. We will definitley be back and couldn't reccomend more highly.

We stayed here with our little son for a much-needed family break. The location was perfect for walks through the fells and coffees in Chester’s. The lodge was welcoming and cosy after a long day out and the perfect place for us to settle in for the night.

An excellent week stay for our families first time in the Lakes. Perfect central location with a bus stop at the bottom of the hill which made getting around great on weekends as car parking out and about was too busy. Pool was brilliant and we used everyday. House well stocked for a home from home experience. Would definitely stay again and make use of the walks from the door next time. The second room was not a twin as per pictured, it’s a bunk with a double underneath. However our 2 year old loved it as we hadn’t bought the travel cot as the twin would be short space. Our two year old climbed the ladder and that was that decided for the week! She loved it so much she now wants one at home. Only slightly negative the mattress in the double room was very soft so didn’t suit our comfort but appreciate everyone is different. Also would maybe suggest a blind from the kitchen to the locked off room as was a little strange first night when we suddenly looked out and saw loads of furniture! Excellent communication before our holiday both email and phone call and whilst we were there to state the pool was closed for an hour for maintenance (which didn’t effect our plans) Pool is open til 630 in the evening and we pretty much had a private pool most days! Next time we would investigate the walks straight from the door as we didn’t this time as already had plans what we were going to do. Be aware the drive to the estate is also a short steep hill, which does mean if you are getting the bus you have to walk this on the way back! The footpath through the woods is much nicer and not quite as steep. It is also a steep walk to and from the pool! Definitely a keep fit holiday and just what we were after. Loved being in the trees in our cabin and with the wildlife. Thanks!

We loved this cottage and hope to revisit next year. You can feel that it's loved, it's well stocked and well decorated. Even in the midst of torrential rain it was cosy. Hardwick Cottages and the owner both were really nice. Pool is down a steep hill but if you have already done a hill walk that day you can take the car down :-) most days we had the pool to ourselves. Would have been nice if the estate office had opened once in our stay as we wanted to buy the walking map, but this is nothing to do with Herdwick or the owner.
