The Property

24 Tanners Yard is a beautifully modern two-bedroom apartment situated in one of Kendal's well-known yards - Tanners Yard which is a characterful pedestrian lane - the only one of Kendal's historical lanes that leads directly from Highgate to the River Kent.

Historically, local confectioner and baker, Walter Rigg, purchased the building in the 1920s. It remained as a bakery until 1986 when it was bought by the Christadelphians. The church sold the property in 2019. It has since been renovated and developed by the current owner into two high-spec, eco-apartments - 23 and 24 Tanners Yard Apartments. The building retains its original facade on Tanner's Yard, next to the famous Snuff Works.

The central location of 24 Tanners Yard makes it an ideal base from which to visit the high street with its many bars and restaurants + the Brewery Arts Centre or visit Windermere and the Central Lakes via the hourly 555 Lakes Explorer Bus.

Home far away from Home. That's exactly how we felt like staying at this lovely minimal but very stylish, modern and kids friendly apartment in the heart of Kendal. Luckily close to a lot of activities suitable for children. On a rainy day we visited the KendalWall, Lakeland indoor climbing centre but most of the days we have been lucky enough to experience The Lakes in their full beam with lots of sunshine. Once we drove down to climb some trees at Windermere's Treetop Trek, highly recommended! After spending a long day outdoors we loved coming back to our cosy, beautiful and clean apartment picking up some fish & chips from Frydays, only 3 minutes walk from the flat. Lovely evenings spent in the lounge area watching Tv looking back at our photos laughing and munching away... We will be back!

What an incredible find! Tucked away down the very cute and historic Tanners Yard, this beautifully furnished holiday apartment immediately felt like home! Having been recently refurbished, the design and attention to detail was perfect and made our stay so comfortable and relaxing. We stayed as a group of 4 (2 couples) and found the apartment very spacious with 2 bathrooms and a huge kitchen, dining and lounge area and big windows throughout so the sun flooded in (most of the time!). We were very pleased to find Kendal had a great selection of restaurants and bars and can highly recommend The Moon Highgate restaurant and The Blind Busdriver speakeasy cocktail bar. We had intended to try the wine bar just next door but after a long days walking we felt far too relaxed in the apartment that we didn’t want to leave! I can’t recommend this apartment highly enough the perfect place to explore Kendal, Windermere and the Lakes beyond!

This is a lovingly refurbished apartment in the heart of Kendal. It is spacious and light, our double bed was exceedingly comfortable and the large bath in the main bathroom was a treat after a hard day's walking. The kitchen was well supplied and the sun shone on the dining table as we ate our breakfasts - a good start to the day! Kendal is a busy centre with a some good historical walks around it to enjoy and gives easy access to the rest of the Lake District. We had a lovely meal at The Moon Highgate in Kendal and enjoyed browsing in the shops. We would definitely recommend this as a place to stay.
