The Property
High Beckside is nestled in the lovely conservation village of Hartsop in the Lake District National Park, 450 metres from Brothers Water and 2.5 miles from the shores of Ullswater where you will find the Ullswater Steamers.

The cosy 17th-century farmhouse offers 3 spacious bedrooms in the main house and an additional en-suite bedroom in the former wool loft adjoining the main house (accessed from an external stone staircase outside the front door). The whole house is decorated with touches reflecting the local landscape and the owners lives as Lakeland farmers with Herdwick wool carpets in the living/dining area, stairs and landing, made from the wool of the local Herdwick sheep, which graze the surrounding fells. There are also local Herdwick wool rugs and throws throughout the house, and a number of original paintings and prints by local artists hang on the farmhouse walls.

The Ground Floor:
Comprising of the living room, dining area and fully-equipped kitchen, with Lakeland stone worktops, is open-plan and spacious, making a great space to gather in the evenings in front of the roaring open fire. Leading off from the living area, through the original oak panelled entrance hall, is the large drying room, laundry room, and downstairs WC, ideal for drying wet walking gear boot or even mountain bikes - dry and secure.

Upstairs:
Two Three spacious bedrooms, a double, single and twin all benefiting from beautiful views of the surrounding fells. A modern shower room with basin and WC, as well as an additional separate WC.

Outside:
The splendid natural garden surrounds the farmhouse and offers a tranquil mix of wild and grass areas ideal for barbeques and picnics and the southerly views of Hartsop Dodd and Dovedale are superb. To the bottom of the garden is the lovely stream, fenced off for safety, it can be accessed via the footpath running adjacent to the property. The garden is a magnet for the local wildlife and birds, with badgers being regular visitors.
Accommodation Summary
Three bedrooms in the main house can accommodate five guests in total. A double, twin and a single bedroom. The en-suite Wool Loft is a twin bedroom with a separate entrance. The layout of the property offers flexibility to hire just the main house, sleeping 5 or add the Wool Loft for an additional two guests. Separate prices are available.

Things To Note
High Beckside dates from the 17th century, so it comes with uneven stairs, low door frames and exposed beams. Taller guests should take care.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely setting. So peaceful with amazing views from the garden. Very well equipped and extremely cosy. Welcoming letter from the owners was a nice touch. Walks from the door but well placed for Patterdale, Glenridding and further afield.

High backside was in a really great location for our adult family who wanted to walk, run and swim. One of us had to work! But the witness reliable too. Owners were pro active in wanting to be helpful when they thought the fridge might not work, but it resolved quickly. The cottage was homely and happy he beds comfy with a gorgeous garden. A little way to get any shopping etc but that’s the way we like it.

We had a great Holiday at High Beckside. The cottage was lovely and exactly as the photos portrayed it. It was clean, warm, rustic and cosy; everything we were looking for. The location was great for the walks we had planned and the views up Hartsop dodd from the garden were fantastic. Also the warm boot room for drying off all our walking gear was excellent, because lets face it, its the Lakes, it rains a lot! :)

This property is in a fabulous location, plenty of walks straight from the door! We found the property clean and tidy, with very comfy beds, plenty of hot water, and a lovely garden to sit in after a day of exploring. The kitchen is well stocked with pans/utensils/crockery etc.

The cottage was lovely with lots of charm due to the original features (beams, spice cupboard). The drying room was amazing - I wish we had one at home. The views were beautiful. We enjoyed walking to The Knot and exploring the area around Ullswater - easily accessed on foot. We hope to return.

Slightly frustrating that my text message, to the mobile number I was given by Herdwick, enquiring about a possible early arrival didn’t get replied to at all - on arrival there was a hand written note explaining they were away and another contact number was given for emergency but by then it was obviously too late for our travel plans. The sofas are in need of attention, otherwise a clean and very comfortable stay.

We had a great week away at High Beckside. The location is ideal for both local walking and driving via the Pass to other locations in the Lakes. Both open plan living and the annexe worked perfectly for three generations on holiday together. Some locks on the windows upstairs would be useful, but in general, very family friendly - my son loved throwing rocks in the stream down the road.

High Beckside is a beautiful cottage whose location is perfect if you love heading to the mountains for a good days walk. The facilities are perfect and the bonus is a good sized drying room for all your kit. The scenery is outstanding. I would highly recommend a holiday in High Beckside.
