History:

The earliest known record of the building is a map, dating back to 1758, showing two separate buildings. Later records from 1833 show that "M Forrest" owned the buildings - hence the name Forrest's Yard.

Twenty years later, in 1853, records show both buildings as one, suggesting that building work was carried out to join the two together. Records also show the new owner as Mr George Forrest, who was a surgeon and even the twice-elected Local Town Mayor.

Now, Grade II Listed, the property has been carefully refurbished to a high standard, while retaining many of the original features.

What a fantastic find! We were looking for the impossible we thought - a house large enough to accommodate our family of 17. What we found at Forrest’s Yard Townhouse was the most amazing and comfortable space. The house is divided into two apartments, but it manages to feel like one big home. The rooms are all an impressive size, the furniture is extremely comfortable, and the facilities are second to none. Extraordinary well equipped, the owners have thought of everything you could possibly want, and everything is clean and maintained to a very high standard. The location itself is beautiful, everything you need on your doorstep but just minutes away from total serenity with beautiful walks around the lakes and hills. We couldn’t have wished for more and are already looking to book again.

Excellent accommodation over 2 linked apartments. Main dining area can seat 14. Very well equipped. Very clean and bedrooms and bathrooms were excellent. Parking tight but great to be able to get 6 cards in a secure area. The front door opened straight onto the Main street which made walking into town very easy.

Family gathering of 12 over 4 generations spent a really lovely week in the two apartments. So much space for all of us - incredibly comfy beds, efficient heating and lovely wood burners. Great having two kitchens which were well equipped - as we did Christmas dinner we supplemented with a Big Pan and Yorkshire pudding tray. The huge dining table was brilliant and so festive. Can’t recommend highly enough.
