About this Apartment
No 1, Yard 18 is situated in the historic part of Kendal known as Old Kirkland, or simply Kirkland for short. Initially, a 3-floor home which was subdivided many years ago to create three individual apartments. Kendal is renowned for its Yards and Yard 18, off Chapel Lane, was once lined with stone cottages which surrounded the Wesleyan chapel, built 1872. Sadly many of the stone cottages have been demolished to make way for more modern housing and the chapel now serves as apartments. This apartment is popular for guests visiting the Kendal Mountain Film Festival.

Locally to Kirkland, and just across the road from the apartment is Abbot Hall Park, Kendal Parish Church and Abbot Hall Art Gallery. You are also a short stroll from the Brewery Arts Centre, with its cinema and theatre and of course the many bars and restaurants which line the main road through Kendal. A small convenience store is just 1-minute walk away.

Inside
Access to the Apartment is up to one flight of stairs. Once inside, leading off from the short hallway is the living room, bedroom, bathroom and the kitchen. The living room and bedroom are east-facing looking over the road and towards Kendal Castle. It's important to note that while the apartment has been fitted with double glazing windows, guests may still hear traffic from outside.
The kitchen provides an oven & hob, dishwasher, double-door fridge & freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery. A starter supply of team and coffee is also provided for you. Central heating is throughout the property and controlled via the Nest Thermostat in the living room.
In the living room is a comfortable two-seater sofa as a fold away dining table with two chairs. The Smart TV is connected to the Internet to allow the use of Netflix alternatively, there is also a Roku device. While the original log burner is still in place, unfortunately, it is no longer in operation and serves only for decoration.
Bedrooms / Bathrooms
The apartment offers one large double bedroom. Bed linen is provided for you. A small TV on the wall, two bedside lamps and a chest of drawers with a hairdryer. Pull-down black-out blinds are fitted to the bedroom window.
The bathroom is compact yet functional. You have a walk-in shower, basin and loo. Towels are provided for you.
Outside
The apartment does not have a garden or outside space, other than the entrance to the building.

Things to Note

As with most town centre apartments, there will be some noise from the road outside and people passing.
WiFi is provided throughout the apartment.
Pets are not permitted in the apartment.
Free parking is available, using the permit found in the apartment, across the road at the Parish Church.

My partner and I loved the apartment we stayed in and thought it was perfect for what we needed- an affordable, quiet getaway. The kitchen facilities were great and we had everything we could’ve possibly needed. The neighbours were very friendly too which is always a pleasant bonus! The only reason we have given 4/5 for comfort is because the sofa in the lounge wasn’t overly comfortable and was quite small and boxy- not the end of the world as overall the place was definitely good value for money. We would recommend to others and stay again ourselves in future.

I stayed for about 2 months in No 1 Yard 18 and was very happy. It was a perfect place for an economical, very safe, comfortable, well managed, well-located extended stay in the middle of Kendall. I loved walking to everything I needed and to everything I enjoyed - restaurants, movies, beautiful churches, buses to beautiful places, shops, and new friends. I was very sad to have to leave abruptly before my full four months were up because of the pandemic, but I will be back and I will stay again at No 1 Yard 18.
