Woodland Critters Clothkits® Classic Padded Jacket, Children's Dressmaking Kit Orange Reviews

I think the design is possibly too simple. I am halfway through making this for a 4 year old. Changes I will make: I have bought more wadding as the wadding supplied varies a lot in thickness and is rather insubstantial. I will double up the wadding, quilting the first layer to the printed fabric and letting the second layer hang loose except for where the pockets are. I will put a button and buttonhole inside the overlap so that the jacket stays shut. I will align the large pockets to the bottom of the front sections and to the side seams. A much neater finish. I know the pattern won't match but on the longest size they would be too high up if pattern matched.

I have fond memories of making two of these for my daughters and now I have made one for my grandson nearly thirty years on. The designs are still great and this one feels like good quality cotton. I am less impressed with the thinner lining which is a very different brown to the jacket, or the quality of the wadding which is very variable in thickness. Plastic toggles were supplied which look very different to the ones on the photo. The instruction illustrations refer to a different jacket and I found them hard to follow. Beware if you are making for a boy and want the coat to wrap accordingly as the pocket placing instructions are intended for right over left fastening.

I also first sewed this jacket for my children in the mid 80's and was so proud. It was a blue and red farmyard pattern with a lovely emerald green lining. Long gone now, sadly, but I've so enjoyed being able to make new for my grand daughters. Love Clothkits! Please keep them coming.
