The instrument arrived promptly as promised. It was well protected and as described. I have, successfully, played a full sized tuba for many years now in Brass Bands, but the weight and size has made the full size instrument difficult to handle and to transport in recent years. I will, hopefully have a few more years of playing so the Wessex instrument appeared to be the solution to my difficulties. It is well made, though in order to achieve its light weight, it is not quite so robust as the full size instrument. The tone is good and blends well with the other tubas in the band. Unfortunately, whilst I can comfortably play the lower registry notes, those in the upper registry are less secure and are often split. I have tried using three mouthpieces, the one which came with the instrument and two I have used over the years with the full size instrument, the last two without a problem. With this instrument, however, my achievement of the upper registry notes is insecure and intermittent with all of the mouthpieces. This is a little disappointing as, in all other respects, it meets my requirements admirably.

The "Imp" is just what I wanted, being a "senior adult" with shoulder issues. It's lighter than my 7/8 tuba, more maneuverable, and sounds great. And it comes with a great hard case.

Good three valve tuba works well and versatile for use with a training band or small group!

I am a life-long tuba player (for 60 of my 69 years). I also have 2 tuba-playing daughters. I am satisfied with the tubas I own, my daughters were both in need of new horns. One daughter was (grudingly) playing my cluncky old sousaphone. The other was renting a horn from a local music store. I got tired of hearing my first daughter complain about the sousaphone. I began to research tubas online. I found the Wessex Imp. It sounded like exactly like what my daughter wanted: a compact, 3/4 size, 3 valve horn. I decided to purchase it. My daughter loves it!! My daughter loves her Imp so much, I decided to buy another Imp for my second daughter. She also is in love with her new horn! And dad is finally getting peace.

Beautiful tuba, I swear it’s like eye candy, it plays well too! I swapped the mouthpiece, the one that came with it is definitely not that good. This is a fantastic tuba to get on a budget!

We purchased this 3/4 tuba for our 9th grade son who is in marching band and concert band at school. He absolutely loves it. The sound is beautiful. It is easy to play, lightweight, and the perfect size for home. We just swapped the mouthpiece for a regular-sized mouthpiece and he is good to go. We could not be happier with our purchase thus far. It made for a very special, surprise Christmas gift. He plays it everyday! ♥️

It's an excellent small tuba. Good for the young student, but also good for the aging tubist who hasn't the "smarts" to quit. It wasn't the one I wanted, but it was what you had at the time. All around "nice little horn". dt
