“I read the comments below about the documentation (or "lack of"). I remember my first contact with the product and the +/- 10 comments (in Chinese language !!) in all the code... I invite users to take a look at my GitHub repository where they can find a Firmware they can run on the Pico-RGB-Matrix along with a User Guide that explains many elements of the hardware, I believe my source code is also well documented. I'm also planning to make a fork (Pico-ASTL-Display) that I will post in my repositories also based on Waveshare's Pico-RGB-Matrix Pico-ASTL-Display will be the starting point for the deployment of a Smart Home ecosystem family of products based on the PicoW.”
“As a hardware/firmware developer, I found the idea of this product interesting. Because it can use a Pico, the number of projects that can be done is only limited by imagination.
Documentation is very weak. Like a lot of Waveshare products, I've looked at, detail and example code is limited. Fine if you want to explore the basic ideas before writing your projects, but no good if you're expecting to take the unit, plug it in and see a really good device.
I found the schematics extremely useful and they allowed me to figure out the power options. The example C++ code compiled and ran the first time, but the functionality was rubbish.
I'd recommend this product to people who want to learn the basics of coding for an RGB matrix display.”
“Took just a few minutes to put together and a few more of playing around to get it to work exactly as I wanted, but all in all a good bit of kit for the money. The set contains everything you need to get up and running, except a Pico. Not managed to figure out the iR side of it yet so can’t comment, but will be upgrading to a Pico W soon, so may be surplus to requirements. My only grumble is the supporting info is a little bit thin on the ground, not a problem for those with good knowledge or programming, but may prove a little more tricky for a newbie - A few searches of the usual resources: GitHub, Adafruit, etc and you will find what you need. Will be buying another one soon to link up, which seems simple enough.”
“The jury is still out, as I'm waiting for a reply from Waveshare, to my query about a possible hardware problem.
I find the online information to be rather mixed and confusing, as some parts relate to the Arduino, instead of the Pico, and C/C++ instead of CircuitPython.
I've been unable to find details of the different power and micro-USB connections, so I'm not entirely happy with this product.”
