“Great hat, but it doesn't fully work with a Pi5 running Home Assistant (bare metal). Firstly if you've got a small heat-sink with integrated fan, the UPS hat doesn't sit flush - and you'll need to get your own extension legs. Secondly there is no auto-restart function built into this INA219 UPS hat. The Pi5 (and the Pi4 for that matter) need to have an interruption in power in order to restart. If you set a graceful shutdown threshold of say 10% state of charge, the hat still supplies 5v to the Pi5 even though it is shut down. Unless that power is momentarily broken, then when mains power is re-applied, and the UPS starts charging again, the Pi5 sees no difference in its power supply state... noting that it's already shut down at this point! There's no real work-around to this unfortunately unless some complicated hardware interrupt is built - but that would have to work on the hat pins from the UPS into the Pi5... messy. One solution might be to put a very low SoC threshold, so that the UPS hat effectively totally runs out of juice in the event of a more lengthy power-cut, hence eventually cutting the 5v supply to the Pi5.”
