“So at the moment there are issues with the Wayland drivers, but those will get fixed. That aside I'm successfully using a Pi5 as my desktop development system with Debian Bookworm, Gnome and two 4k screens. It's an amazing amount of power for something that fits in the palm of your hand and only eats 5 watts. Also, don't get too carried away with NVMe, a reasonable plug-in external USB drive will get you nearly 400Mb/sec which is rather better than a traditional hard drive on a PC.”

“I bought an 8GB Pi 5 as I wanted to test out HomeBridge and for this it is overkill. I may well end up using Home Assistant instead and for that it is best to have a reasonably powerful machine to run it on and as I didn't want to have to change the Pi I went with the top spec. I have installed it in an Argon Neo 5 case and it is working really well and running quietly.”
