“Top score all around.
With NVME upgrade I can now, usefully, keep several of these on the go.
I am using one as an everyday computer, another running a web server (lamp), one monitoring a weather station, and one controlling a telescope. I have plans for others.
Powerful enought for most tasks (that I need) cheap enough to dedicate a computer per application.
This I could not do with conventional computers as the cost would be prohibitive (not to mention the power consumption).”
“It seems there are big problems booting to a monitor that isn't 4K, trawling the net and spending days experimenting got me as far as the splash screen before it auto configures and goes dark again. Official advice is "try another monitor". Not much of a low cost option if you have to shell out £200 for a new monitor! I've tried a 27" Benq and my LG TV, no joy at all.
The only way I could spark it up was to use RPi OS lite, command line only version, which has helped me ironically, as I was looking to embed the 5 into a system with an old 4" touch screen.
Finally up and running with a GS camera and a 150mm f2.5 lens, it does astrometric plate solving at astonishing speed”
“The pi 5 is fantasticly quick with boot up and multiple applications open. I aim to use this on a 12v system on a boat a little concerned on the power usage as continusly get a power warning.”
