“I love these little boards. Only real downside is that it kicks out a lot of RF noise, and since it has no antenna connector you can't put it in a shielded box if you need to use WiFi.”
“A very cheap and easy option to get into the world of raspberry pi. Very easy and simple to set up and run small programs, although using a browser can be a drag as there is very little processing power. Over very solid choice for a very small price!”
“★ ★ ★ ★ ★
I’ve been using the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W as the edge “brain” for my Zmeura-TransitIQ telematics prototype, and it has exceeded all expectations. Even when powering it from a 20 000 mAh USB bank, the little board kept humming along—when I checked on day two, it was still up and running without a hitch.
Its combination of quad-core performance and tiny footprint made it perfect for ingesting GPS data, running my Rust-based processing agents, and forwarding telemetry to AWS IoT Core. Despite continuous data collection and network connectivity, CPU usage stayed remarkably low and power draw was minimal.
Setup was a breeze thanks to The Pi Hut’s prompt shipping and clean packaging—my unit arrived with headers already soldered, so I could get straight to testing. The wireless range was rock-solid even in a moving vehicle, and GPIO access let me hook up a backup battery-level monitor with no fuss.
Adding a GPIO-driven display for live status updates wasn’t exactly plug-and-play—it took a bit of extra configuration—but when you’re building a bespoke project like mine, a little tinkering is to be expected.
All in all, the Pi Zero 2 W is the ideal companion for cloud-connected, battery-powered IoT projects. Highly recommended for anyone building lightweight, resilient telemetry nodes!”
