“I really like the fact that this latest Pi (3B+) has WiFi and Bluetooth built in. It's really nice not having to deal with dongles, and all of the clutter that comes with them. And the performance of this new processor is breathtaking... it's very fast, and faster is better! But... I continue to be disappointed with the lack of support for headless operation. By that, I simply mean there are some easy things that could be done to make the setup process less obtuse. Someone made a good decision when they decided against BIOS, and opted to make `/boot` a FAT partition that can be easily edited. Currently, users are "allowed" to enable SSH, and put up an initial WiFi configuration before installing the SD card and booting. But that's not good enough, IMHO. For example, one still faces arcane, ill-defined procedures to discover the IP address of the new Pi! What good is SSH enabled, if you don't know the host's IP address?! There is an easy solution for this, and if the Raspbian "keepers" can't be bothered to cure these annoyances, they should at least open up `/boot` to provide more capability and allow the users to fix it themselves! There are literally hundreds of config items that could be set up in `/boot`... imagine various "standard recipes" tailored to a specific network environment or usage for those that are less familiar with Linux admin. The Raspbian keepers needn't create these recipes, but they should at minimum provide the means for the user base to do so.”

“I'm using it as media center for my son. I come from PI3b and previusly i needed to connect a USB Disk to my PI due to wifi latency problems. Now i'm very happy to use only my NAS to storage my files. Finally i'm able to use my 5 GHz Wifi and my heaviest 1080 FHD videos are seen fluently and without interruptions. I'm using the original CPU cooler and I've never seen the thermometer on my screen. My PI3B+ is protected by an open case that allow good ventilation but with the PI3B I still needed an additional dissipator and a fan. All these things now do not come anymore. I think that compared to PI3B the improvements are immediately obvious, although to be honest I wanted to have a USB3 or SATA connector. I do not think I will upgrade all my devices to the latest model, but I'm sure my money has been well spent.”
