“It's an awful pain to find a 64-bit distro to run on it. Fedora has one image but it's slow as hell, running at only 600 MHz. I finally found a pre-built 64-bit Gentoo image which works fine at 1.4 GHz. The board is very sensitive to input voltage variations, which is a shame considering that it's powered via micro-USB which causes a lot of losses. When it happens it simply throttles (which is better than hanging but makes people report horrible performance). An extra heatsink is absolutely mandatory to reduce throttling, as the board consumes up to 8W under load, and heats very quickly then throttles. However the PCB spreads the heat much better than previous designs. Not impressed overall. Or yes in fact, impressed that so little progress was made over the years despite so large a community.”
“This little board of super usefulness is the final link in my covert (portable) SDR (Software Driven Radio) box. The Pi, together with an RSP1A SDR box and the appropriate software lets me monitor radio frequencies from way down low on the dial, to up in the microwaves.
It needed to all go in a portable case (Pelican) and with an old laptop screen fitted into the lid of the case, I have a completely portable radio monitoring station.”
“Bought Pi to run Pi-hole at home, great service from The Pi Hut, will definitely use again.
Pi was easy to set up as was Pi-hole, now enjoying ad-free browsing across all devices at home.”
