“I have not been so excited about computing since the earliest days of the microcomputer era back in the late 70's early 80's. The Pi3 replaces all previous Pi's bar the Zero. The addition of wifi and bluetooth make it a complete single board solution.
The Raspbian operating system is my favourite Linux distrobution. It reads that fine line between the more desktop distro's like Mint and Ubuntu compared to those requiring hard core command line expertise like Arch. It's light weight and suprisingly nippy. The speed means it's comfortable to develop an idea on Pi 3 prior to transfering it to a Zero. The ease of doing so facilitated by the use of SDcards.
SDCards may not be the most reliable of media but they are easy to backup to a PC.
Pi's invert the previous method of having a single machine run many programs. Thye are inexpensive enough so that you can, if you wish, run one prgram per machine.
I have two Pi's on 24/7. One runs the security camera the other an ADSB airplane radar monitor. Pi current consumption means the running costs are around 10 to 15 pounds per annum for two 24/7 Pi's.
The online community support for the Pi is the best by far. No other online community comes close to providing the wealth, depth and polite support as the Pi community.
I have two Pi3's a Pi 2 and two Pi Zero's, not to mention several high powered PC's. I know I will be adding to the Pi collection very soon.
If you have any interest at all in learning about Linux there is no excuse not to buy a Pi.”
“Very happy with my upgrade to the Pi3, nice performance boost over its predecessor, and a nice bonus to have wifi and bluetooth built in. Needs a bit more juice compared to the pi2 - so if unsure also buy the recommended power supply.”
