“The Raspberry Pi - W is a no brainer for IOT projects. A full Linux computer with Wi-Fi for under £10. Plus it's a Raspberry Pi so it has massive, and I mean MASSIVE, levels of support and add-ons available everywhere. What's not to like :-D”
“I got my Pi 0 W basicly to toy around with. Once the initial Setup was done all one needs is a power supply and it can be controlled remotely without any extra component at all. For me, that is the key feature. In addition, the smaller form factor and lower power consumption also sets it above the Pi 3.”
“This is an amazing piece of technology for the size - I've employed it as a webcam (you'll need the ribbon adaptor to make it work) but the uses are endless.
If I have any frustrations it's that pretty much everything needs an adaptor to work, but because this has wifi and bluetooth, once it's set up, all it needs is power and I'm good to go!”
“Currently using one to control my Hive light bulbs in the kids rooms (they always leave them on). Have 2 push button led lights hooked up plus a schedule works a treat. Best of all it's a very small package! Will be getting some more!”
“The built in Buletooth and even more the onboard WiFi makes the Zero W a LOT more versatile than the standard Zero.
It's well worth to invest a few bucks in the new model.
Not only you gain a free USB port, also the total power consumption is far below of a system consisting of a Pi Zero, an USB hub, a WiFi dongle and a Bluetooth dongle.
Integrating these two wireless interfaces into the Pi is a great progress.
I use my Zero W as a MotioneyeOS surveillance platform and it turned out, drivers for WiFi and camera(!) as well needed to be updated.
Pretty soon these became part of the MotioneyeOS distribution and it runs fine out of the box now. A big "Thank you" to Calin Crisan for the fast adaption!”
