“These shims are excellent for driving low impedance speakers. I use them with pi zero w scb to convert vintage speakers to bluetooth operation.
The only bad thing is the speaker connections. The push fit is terrible and really should be replaced with simple screw connections”
“This is a lovely little amp well suited to driving a low impedance speaker. I have it working on a pi zero w with a richard allen baflette speaker.
Just be sure to solder to the pi gpio pins. (The friction fit really isn’t good enough). And the speaker terminals are also flaky. The makers should fit better ones or just leave solder tags.
Anyway. Can’t complain too much at the price. Highly recommended.”
“The info says "clever friction fit header which slips handily over your GPIO pins, doesn't need soldering". Don't believe it - it only works if you solder it in. Fine after that.”
“This is fantastic. Super easy to attach to a pi zero ( and leaves pins ready to fix cables as required) and in no time at all i had moodeaudio running. Powers an old richard allen speaker. Makes wonderful sounds”
“This is a great little device, but there are a few things to be aware of.
1. The shim fit is OK but much better if it's soldered on or connected. I had several attempts to get it working without soldering, but found this a better option.
2. Installing the basic drivers ( default Alsa device)works OK, but with raspbian you will need to add some configuration to allow volume change. Or you will be running 100% volume
3. The speaker connectors are fiddly but work well.”
“I've used a few of these and getting them to work reliably can be challenging as you have to get them into just the right position (hence 4 stars). I found a dab of solder to ensure pin 6 (GND) is in contact helps. Once in place, though, they work fine.”
