“The first unit supplied had one dead pixel, which had a bigger impact than expected - the software scanned the array for min and max values, and since the dead pixel returned -273 deg C, this forced all the correct temperatures into a single colour band when displayed. I contacted PiHut support, who immediately sent an RMA number and return label, and then sent out a replacement as soon as they received the original. The new unit is working fine and performs as I'd expected, based on the various web pages I've seen. I'm very pleased with the device and with the speed with which the problem was resolved.”
“When I soldered it, I did not pay attention to the GPIO order and I put the connections the other way around, so the camera was pointing to the top of the Pi that is hot, so I found an old cable and put it away from the Pi. The camera is well protected, because I put it on the wrong row of the GPIO pins and i2cdetect did not show anything until I realize it was on the wrong sequence. When I was able to connect it, I started compiling the code. I posted a video in youtube and I show the links to the libraries I installed.

Hope this helps.”
“Also got the Breakout garden for easy mounting as my soldering is bad.
As others have said compiling the software is a bit hit and miss, have't got the Python to work but bcm2835 stuff does. Even after reading the previous reviews and installing the suggested software I didn;t get the video to work but I am a novice and using an RPI2 B as well.
I have used the camera to check all the walls for heat loss and cold spots using VNC on my phone as a screen.
Well worth the price and the setup time compared to any other thermal camera you can buy off the shelf.”
“The resolution is not amazing, but thats expected. I always wanted a thermal camera to look at where I am loosing heat around the house and a big building, this does the job. The I2C method and documentation that are supplied with it are great. I was able to set up a camera with VNC to my smartphone within an hour . The command line Programs are a great way to start making your own projects and the test program work straight away . The pin layout is excellent just plug it in to the GPIO and no messy wiring. You Will have to do a bit of soldering . Well thought out one of the best Things to have on a pi and very reasonably priced.”
