“It expands functionality, adding a speaker and a battery, and convenience with a on-off switch, making it all more portable. A clip would be a nice thing to have to hang it on clothes.”
“This is a great first start for an independent power source for the micro:bit board. It works exactly as advertised but could be improved. Here are things I felt were niggles needing improvement.
- The battery should be rotated so that you can change batteries without detaching it from the board.
- It cannot be used with the edge connector for use with a breadboard.
- I don't like the bolt arrangement for attaching the board. I think a snap-fit connector would be a much better choice. Since I have to detach it to use my board with the edge connector, a snap-fit option would be a big improvement.
- Finally, the board could be made smaller if it used a wire lead to plug into the micro:bit instead of the screw terminal thing. If this were an option, it would fit in the edge connector. But this would also require reworking how the speaker connects.
- Conversely, the edge connector could be improved so that it has two connectors - one for the board and one for the power board with only the appropriate pins connected (power, ground, pad 0).”
“This is a wonderful addition to the Microbit. It adds a decent power source and speaker - two vital components. I heartily recommend additionally purchasing the case that fits both this and the Microbit. It keeps it all nice and neat without trailing cables.”
