“I bought this to use as the interface for my HA setup running on a Pi. Although I have yet to get it working for this I am impressed with what this device packs in to a small package. Like other M5Stack products I have bought it is very well made and designed. I had it up and running via the web burner interface really quickly and I expect with some more tinkering I will get it to perform as my HA controller. This little beauty has so much potential and is a steal!”
“This is a great little setup. P4 with a C6 radio co-processor.
Performance is great, screen is really sharp.
You do need to understand embedded programming to make it useful, this isn’t a thing you buy and expect it to magically do stuff.”
“This "developer-oriented" device has made me re-think what to expect from the ESP32 range. For what you once paid for a Pi-5 you get a well-built hand-held device with a clear, responsive touch-screen, and a simple way of adding a decent capacity battery. As I am new to all this I will leave it to the more experienced adopters to debate the finer points. To me, it seems to have the performance to support decent user-interfaces developed with UiFlow2 and is certainly worth the extra cost compared to the Core range in that respect.
There is also the promise of future peripherals and not just the keyboard as there are quite a few connectors in place.
The only downside I can think of is that the battery sticks out a bit if you use one - but that is obvious before you buy it, and it is described as developer-oriented.
I cannot think of anything else quite like the Tab5. Buy, install UiFlow2 or work with the Arduino IDE, and start developing. MQTT, ESP-NOW, HTTP over Wi-Fi 6 (2.4 GHz) with a dedicated C6 chip for connectivity. Just order one while you can!”
“I bought the Tab5 to run the software from https://github.com/SteffenLav/qmx-panadapter which performs amateur radio panadaptor and FT8 operation with a QRPLabs QMX transceiver. It works splendidly, and the battery seems to last for ages.”
