“Easy to use board at a great price. No issues with getting it to work with Arduino IDE or PlatformIO, just make sure you install the USB driver as detailed in the wiki.”
“This is an amazing little device for the price, all the features you could ever want in an arduino compatible board and more. For the less than 10 pounds as well, i will be buying more than these in the future. Another bonus is that the documentation on the manufactures website isnt completly awful as well.
10/10 would recommend”
“The product itself seems fine so far ignoring my choice of development environment.
I also fall into the macOS Big Sur camp though I thought I would spend some cycles trying to get it to work anyway. End result, the AppleUSBCHCOM driver extension module matches the USB vendor ID however the product ID is 0x7523 and does not match the WCH CH340K USB UART on the Firebeetle ESP32-E board.
Five stars so far, DFRobot Tech Support responded promptly to my request for them to expand upon the comment on their web site product page, "Note: ESP32-E will soon support Mac OS, so please be patient" It seems WCH shall be providing an updated notarised driver extension for their USB UART chip including support for the CH340K revision.
It is possible that the existing AppleUSBCHCOM driver would be compatible anyway if the corresponding product ID in the plist file matched but I haven't tried this as I switched to a Linux VM dev environment for the moment anyway. Your mileage may vary.”
“The low score is only because it's the first ESP32 board that I haven't been able to connect to with my Mac (running Big Sur). I tried a couple of different mac laptops, and a few different cables (direct usb-c, via usb 2) but no luck.
I purchased two boards, neither of them connect, so I'm assuming it's not due to a defective board.
Luckily not the price means it wasn't an overly expensive gamble.”
