“I bought two of these as they seem such a bargain when compared to the equivalent Arduino boards. I had issues getting them to work with a macbook even after installing the driver (in theory the CH340 usb to serial driver should already be installed as part of Mojave and later) so I resorted to installing a VirtualBox VM running Debian and installing the Arduino IDE there. This worked perfectly! I now have them hooked up and talking to each other via MQTT and node-RED.”
“There is an initial caveat with this module - as it doesn't use native USB, if you're using MacOS v 11.x, there are as of writing this no functioning drivers in order to communicate with the virtual com port, although the device will be profiled in the System Report. Once I was able to program via the TX/RX connections using a USB-serial separate module, I was really impressed with the versatility and speed of the FireBeetle ESP32-E. It pretty much has anything you're going to need right on-board for low energy IoT. Service and support from the Pi Hut is excellent, you'll get prompt responses to questions, fast delivery. Having the IO presoldered was extremely time-saving. 5/5 (but use a PC!)”
“A very problematic ESP32 board, there is an issue when trying to upload to the board via USB. Unless you hold down the RST button on the board it does not enter programming mode. Terrible design honestly. Otherwise its just a normal ESP32 board.”
