“Perfect First ESP32 Device for Home Assistant Bluetooth Tracking!!!!
This was my first ESP32 device, and I'm really happy with it. I'm using it as a Bluetooth proxy for presence detection in Home Assistant, tracking my and my partners' iPhones room-by-room throughout the house. There was a bit of a learning curve getting it configured with ESPHome, but admittedly, this was my first foray into the world of DIY smart home devices. Having said that, that's actually what made it valuable. I properly learned how these things work instead of just copying someone else's config. Once it clicked, it all made sense.
The Bluetooth range is fantastic, and the RSSI values seem stable and reliable. This will depend upon placement, but it didn't take me too long to figure out what works and what doesn;t. Build quality is top-notch, compact size is perfect for tucking away, and USB-C is always appreciated. For the price, it's absolutely baller value.”
“I used this and a MiniCan unit to build a Home Assistant device interface for my MVHR using an open source project. It was built at a small fraction of the price of the official interface. The products were really easy to find on the Pi Hut site, great prices and really quick delivery.”
“Incredible value for an ESP dev board I can put anywhere thanks to the minimal case. Absolutely tiny and incredibly easy to get up and running, it’s currently working as a Bluetooth proxy for my entire house after 5 minutes of setup”
“I like the AtomS3 rather than Atom as they have twice the flash memory. The Lite version is a good way of getting a reasonable amount of IO from a device with some basic UI support built in i.e. the RGB LED & push button.”
