“The camera and lens are great and the small form-factor means that you can put a really good quality lens on the unit but still have it fit in a tight space. The ribbon cable that was fitted when the unit was supplied plugged straight into the small camera connector of the RPi5: there is also a cable for allowing it to go into older RPis with the larger slot, but the camera will need a cable with a small-to-small connector if you want to extend the distance on an RPi5. Unlike the Raspberry Pi 'official' cameras, this module is not immediately plug-and-play as the RPi setup does need a few small tweaks to stop the camera auto-detect running, but the information on the arducam site is clear and worked fine for me. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that the two mounting screws for the lens holder use a small 18mm spacing, not the far more common and versatile 20mm distance, which for me restricts how I can mount the sensor to other lens options.”
“A superb, smaller version of the Raspberry Pi HQ camera, now featuring a C mount. The only suggestion for improvement would be to include clear images on the PiHut website illustrating the correct orientation for connecting the white or bronze cables to the camera and the Raspberry Pi, for both the Pi5 and earlier versions.”
“The camera probably works but it miss the crypto chip and now use the new drivers so unable to use with the old software. Arducam and the pi hut should update description”
“An excellent small form factor camera. A great alternative to the normal sized HQ camera where size is a concern. Used with a pi compute module 4.
Would be good if there were was a cheaper option which did not include the 80° lens (or if it was possible to choose from a selection of lenses).”
“Amazingly small HQ camera module. Almost plug and play compared to Raspberry Pi normal (non HQ) camera module. It accepts same commands as well so it worked flawlessly in my RPI Web Cam setup. Quality of images is loads better than original module.”
