Adding hats to boards can interfere with cooling especially if its active. Fans need to have airflow to keep the heat off of the critical components. These risers can help keep things a fraction higher for airflow or to keep the underside of screens clear of add on boards like those with USB or LAN ports. Its easy to short things out when it does become tight. Now anymore, add a riser and you get the space you need. Theres a high riser or this one which gives you the gap you need to prevent accidentally shorting out and nuking your board.

On a Pi 5 I added the heatsink and fan to ensure things maintained a sensible temperature. I then purchased the original car pi hat and found that when seated on the goo pins the base of the hat was too close to the heatsink. While I am sure this would have been safe, it would have reduced the effectiveness of the fan etc. The simple addition of this riser header was the perfect solution. I love the Pi Hut as they always carry the solution to any problem I have encountered. Well done you guys.

Really useful to put a HAT on a raspberry pi above an active heatsink/fan installed.

The 2x20 pins fit nicely into an LED screen I had, but the pins were still too loose to click into place. I wanted to avoid soldering.
