Another very helpful board from Cytron/Maker. Their approach is simple but effective: add a lot of extras - LEDs on all pins, clear labels, grove ports, buttons, buzzer, neopixel - to a board with the aim of helping the user to quickly learn the basics of the microcontroller. With CircuitPython pre-installed, it really does work out of the box. Build quality is good and it's excellent value for the price.

In order to carry out some practical tests using the Pi Pico, I needed breadboard of sorts for the components. The Raspberry Pi Maker Pi Pico system board provided me with all the item I needed in a one unit item.

I've been using this board for the last week or so. It is excellent value with so many built in components. I particularly liked the very clear labelling of the pins, unlike the bare Pico with the pin numbers only on the under surface and the RUN button. The buzzer is loud, but the switch will turn off the sound if it disturbs others while programming lively tunes. The LEDS on every pin and three switches are ideal of you are new to physical computing and coding. While the RGB Neopixel and micro-SD card reader offer more experienced user plenty of options such as datalogging. It it easy to add sensors and a simple OLED display via the Grove ports. The example programs, in both CircuitPython and MicoPython will quickly get you started but you could use C/C++ or even the Arduino IDE. This inexpensive, component packed board is very well built and I recommend it.

This inexpensive, well made and feature packed board will appeal to many users: * novice users: easy access to LEDS, switches, Grove ports and clearly labelled male pins - without soldering * more advanced users for the many included add-ons - buzzer/speaker, Neopixel, SD card reader If you do buy one I recommend that you also get an SSD1306 (128x64 pixels display) as it will greatly increase the versatility of your setup at little extra cost. Keep an eye out for software updates - improvements from Adafruit are happening all the time.
