Having been looking for a project for a spare raspberry Pi 2, I read up about FlightRadar24 and the ease of making a DIY "quick spider" antenna to try out flight tracking at minimal cost. The flightaware stick is reasonably priced and, in conjunction with my DIY antenna, enables me to pick up planes from 200 nautical miles away, despite the antenna currently residing in our loft. Recommended.

The FlightAware ProStick works as expected. However an outside antenna mounted as high as possible would improve reception immensley.

Quick delivery. Connected to a pi 4 and with the flightaware 26" antenna I'm seeing aircraft up to 250 miles away. I've mounted it in my loft and so wasn't expecting much. in a 24 hour period here is the breakdown of the 102760 positions reported (one plane will report it positions many times as it passes in range). up to 50 miles 34% 50-100 miles 36% 100-150 miles 19% 150-200 miles 9% 200-250 miles 2% 250 miles plus 0% (just 9 positions reported) It was very simple to set up, got the whole lot installed and working in under an hour.
