“Connecting this to a Pi Zero 2W and using Moode I'm shocked at how good it is; really. I've variety of DACs ranging from: a restored ARCAM rDAC, an Audiolab MDAC 2, Benchmark DAC1 and (now sold) DAC3L and none of them have or do sound this organic; even the Audioab, which is supposedly its forte.
There's an incredible naturalness to the presentation of instruments, particularly cymbals, which are difficult to get right digitally; piano sounds natural, acoustic and electric bass have an incredible timbre.
So good to average recordings just sound incredible; otoh bad recordings, or transfers from poor quality sources (some compilations which use masters of questionable quality) are not flattered and are presented for what they are; so this DAC tells it as it is which is as it should be imo.
My only problem now is how I’m going to find a case that will protect it; more than likely I’ll have to CAD one up and get a friend to 3D print it for me.
Anway, this DAC is a complete steal for the asking price.”
“Reveals details in my FLAC 16bit music files held on a SanDisk 128GB USB stick that I had not heard before. Used in conjunction with a Pi3B+, JDS Labs Atom Amp and HiFiMan headphones. Software is MoOde Audio. Highly recommended.”
“I am a viynl/analogue snob but this DAC has impressed. For such a little package it packs a big punch. Lots of musical detail even for a Spotify bit rate.”
