“Very tinny sound (when playing music or radio) also had a continual hiss when not. Tried multiple different power supplies & adjusting gain but to no avail. Now consigned to my parts box for a future project”
“I bought this for my portable touchscreen Retropie/Kodi/Raspbian project as, when I plugged a 3.5mm headphone jack, the sound was very distorted. After a bit of digging round on the internet to see how to set a USB sound card as the default audio device, I plugged it in and it works great for such a small speaker. It can also be very loud indeed if the alsamixer audio level is set very high.
The only downside is that, when using a Retropie image, there are no on-screen audio controls (that I'm aware of) or any controls on the speaker itself, so you have to open the terminal and head into the alsamixer settings to change the audio level. A small price to pay for non-crackly audio.”
