“Sorry to moan - but the two packets of whelk meat arrived thawed out. I am not sure whether the product was thawed before or during delivery - but I am not going to take the risk to consume them. The rest of the fish arrived solidly frozen!! Very disappointing.”

Hi Yoong Kwan We send all products out frozen and endeavor to have them delivered frozen but it does happen that products can defrost during delivery. This could be due to those particular items being smaller which can defrost quicker or perhaps being closer to the top of the box which might cause them to defrost a little quicker. We do have a guidance as to when defrosted items can be refrozen. If the items are still cold to the touch, as if they have been in the fridge, then they are safe to consume or place into the freezer. “Loved the taste of the Whelks from the Fish Society. The last time I had some was from a fish stall in Scarborough, not only were they expensive but tasted quite bland. Even though the F.S ones are frozen, once thawed out they retain more flavour than the allegedly fresh ones I had from the seaside.”
