“They still had the fine skin on but I was able to remove it. I used them in a Paella and they were tasty and tender.”

“These were very disappointing. I decided to buy these instead of the usual ones I get from M&S. They were completely tasteless, tough and quite unpleasant. I won’t be buying these again.”

Hello Paul We're sorry that you found the squid tubes so disappointing. I know that our Chairman has already been in contact with you and his response included the following: "Certainly, the whole squid is a superior product from a foodie point of view, with zero processing. Frozen in a clump more or less "just as it came out of the sea". Whereas the tubes are washed, guts removed, inspected for shape, washed again, treated with 3 E numbers, individually frozen (convenient but not quite as "superior") then glazed to produce a product of constant characteristics and great convenience which would appeal to many chefs even if the quality suffered (somewhat) via the experience. In fact the tubes outsell the whole by at least 4 to 1 at a guess. And most buyers are quite happy with them - you will see that the reviews are almost identical (4.7 vs 4.8 - similar number of votes). The processed tube normally relies on its filling and or other ingredients whereas the whole squid can be a culinary success even if served virtually plain"
