“Although MCE gave me a cheap quote and standard breakdown cover for my 125cc, the excess amount remained unacceptable at £875.
You just wish nothing bad is going to happen (theft, vandalism,...) or you will have no chance to be able to recover financially.
They are also charging £96 if you decide to stay with them but change vehicle... not really encouraging.
Their customer service department is one of their strong point: polite, fast, friendly.
Nevertheless, I have chosen another more expensive cover for my new motorcycle and do not intend to consider MCE quotes for a while
My new policy is £150 more expensive than MCE a year but the excess is only £300.”
“I used thebikeinsurer.co.uk comparison site to get a quote.
I got an excellent insurance quote for my Yamaha from MCE (whom I'm already with) for £131.68.
I tried to pay online but there was a "glitch" and I couldn't make the payment online. I had to make the payment over the phone.
The very pleasant young man on the phone couldn't explain why my payment had been refused, so I had to go through ALL the questions again - a bit inconvenient, but not the end of the world, and worth it for the cheap insurance.
However...the price had now changed!!!
MCE now quoted me over £180-odd quid for exactly the same policy!!!
Another £50-odd quid just for phoning up to pay isn't right, surely???
I questioned this with the pleasant young man. He "sought advice from his manager" and subsequently offered the policy at £150, which I grudgingly accepted.
I'm not accusing MCE of discretely scamming customers, and I acknowledge that £150-odd quid is still cheap to insure my bike, but surely the price I was quoted is the price I should pay, otherwise what is the point of the comparison site going to all the effort, only to have the cheapest quote ignored ???
I don't know if this is just a "one-off" occurrence or if any other customers are experiencing this treatment from MCE.
And another thing: for days after I accepted and paid for my insurance I was plagued with phone calls asking me if I wanted to go ahead and buy at the quoted price. Exactly the same thing happened last year, when I first became a MCE customer! This is annoying and inconvenient!
Sort your system out, guys.
The cost is cheap, but there are too many niggles for me to recommend you to my mates.
Sorry for the bad feedback, but you asked for my opinion. I don't think anyone will read this anyway.”
“Buying the policy was easy. No hassle. The documents were all sent electronically and meet my requirements. Apart from that, I've not needed to speak to them (touch wood). The proof will be if I need to make a claim (which hopefully I never need to!).”
