“If you already have SoundID, get the Virtual Monitoring for proper mixing. However, for now it only has one mixing room as reference (plus car,tv and others, no club).
Wish it had more room simulations as VSX.”
“The new virtual monitoring addon is insane! It adds such a realistic sense of space in my headphones that it often doesn't feel like I'm wearing headphones at all, and that I'm really listening to an actual acoustic space. Especially the car translation! Super impressed by all the Sonarworks products as usual. Keep it up team!”
“SoundID Reference Virtual Monitoring Add-on without software is a game-changer. As expected from Sonarworks, it delivers a spectacular sound that mirrors my Adam Audio A7V monitors and subwoofer. Now I can enjoy music through headphones without disturbing neighbors, making it a fantastic addition to my setup. Highly recommended.”
“The addition of Virtual Monitoring to SoundID Reference was a game changer for me. I had already gotten used to working in headphones, but there was still that weird difference between headphones & speakers.
Sonarworks's Virtual Monitoring add-on sounds so much like real speakers that sometimes I think I left the monitors on! With Virtual Monitoring you get cross talk and room reflections. It allows people to mix on the go with a laptop while still feeling at home in their studio. It's also great just by choice, for people who prefer headphones. It's quite literally "a studio on your head."
It offers 3 speaker sizes so you can work with near field monitors for close & personal sound, or far field speakers for the big heavy sound of large speakers in a room. Or use the Mid Field speakers for a happy balance between the two.
I used to worry about not having enough room treatment, but since getting Virtual Monitoring I do most of my work in headphones... so I don't need it.
Times have changed, and more and more professionals are mixing and mastering in headphones. You don't have to have a treated room anymore. With Virtual Monitoring you can wear your room on your head!”
“the idea sounded great to me.
in reality, i have to say that almost everything sounds really bad over this addon. even the most brillant commercial tracks are sounding dull, boomy and boxy with my sennheiser hd 650.
if all the recordings i put through this would have sounded that bad in a "real" studio, they wouldnt have been released.
make sure to use the trial function and dont buy it right away as the old idiot me did!”
Hi Marcus,
Thank you for reaching out!
The FLAT profile might sound weird at first which is the case for all new users as it takes some time to get used to.
I would suggest loading the calibration profile and then having the Dry/Wet setting set to around 50 and slowly increasing the value to 100 over time. This will allow you to understand how the flat profile sounds. When done, then you should be able to utilize our software to its full potential as thousands of studios have done.

I hope this helps!
