“It's a gimmick, but I guess it could be of help if you know what to look for in the three modes when referencing in the final stage of mixing. I wouldn't say the addon is worth it if you own Reference 4 or SoundID as they, on their own, represent as clear/flat of an auditory image as it gets. The addon makes everything a bit more blurry to my ears. Emulating a space, I think, doesn't benefit the stereo image; but helps to hear what frequencies need tweaking to some extent, just in a different (quite hollow) room in this case. Something that ironically could be achieved with the base product, already.”
Hello,
Thank you for the review!
SoundID Reference Virtual Monitoring Add-on allows you to enjoy a flat calibrated studio space within your Headphones. It offers slight reverberations, crossfeed, and a feeling of a more open environment. In summary, it allows you to bring a studio environment everywhere you go and allows you to have a different perspective on your mixes.
As the feature is relatively new, there will be updates and more functionality implemented.
I hope this helps!
“It‘s a must have for headphone mixing and translates best from the various plugins I had so far. During mixing process I use the nearfield setting and check back on the midfield from time to time, which gives a great impression how the mix finally is perceived on good pair of studio monitors. The nearfield though is better for accurate mixing decisions in general while the midfield gives a more realistic bass representation, which should be taken into consideration during the mixing process as well.
Great tool!”
“As they have the longest & succesfull experience on headphones processing, it was logic to me that they would make a good job on their speaker room simulation, and in fact I'm not disappointed. For the price, it is a great addition that doesn't blur the sound as other simulation might sometimes do, the transient stay sharp. And it doesn't take that much more cpu power neither. So, yes, this was logical to me.”
