“I sourced some Pi Zero 1.3's to build some 12V solar powered CCTV boxes, their size and low power demands make them excellent for this. Shipping to Australia was pretty fast, about one week. The exchange rate isn't too eye watering and the price of a pi zero doesn't break the bank.
The Pi Zeros I bought are destined for a rural property that is only fed by solar power and internet from a 4G modem.
A Pi Zero, pan/tilt servos + camera, USB hub with WiFi adapter + USB flash disk, 12v 4Ah SLA battery and solar charge controller all fit snugly inside my chosen enclosures. 2 x 10W 12V solar panels keep everything running with 2 days redundancy in the event of poor sunlight. The Pi and servos are fed power via a small Matek Micro 5V BEC from a local hobby shop while a standard 80mm computer case fan provides cooling once a normally open thermal switch in the enclosure trips at 30C.
The Pi's run full desktop Raspbian. The cameras are managed by RPi cam web interface for motion detection and snapshots and video/photos save to 32GB USB sticks. One pi runs a Softether VPN server using the Azure VPN function to punch through the carrier grade NAT of the 4G connection, allowing clients remote access in to view the Pi cameras.”
