“I use a Pi Zero as a MiniDLNA server and PVR and it works really well for it - I used to use a Raspberry Pi 2 which always seemed liked overkill so I swapped it out for a Pi Zero and it worked well. The speed of it is a little bit of a limiting factor when re-scanning the media library but that's only really a problem because I haven't gotten round to setting up a cron job to do it in the middle of the night. The only real downsides are the necessity of soldering the GPIO pin header, the lack of ethernet and the need for a USB-OTG cable. The latter tends to make it a little trickier to make a compact setup for things but a lot of things you might want to connect can be bypassed by using a Pi Zero W instead nowadays.
One really handy feature is the ability to use the Pi Zero as an ethernet gadget. What this lets you do is use any old phone charging cable to connect to a PC and ssh directly over to it. This is great for programming pHATs, etc and if you use Windows Internet Connection Sharing you can get it online too. It's a little finicky sometimes - you may have to disable the connection sharing and re-enable it to make it connect properly - but it's great if your desktop PC doesn't have two network cards.
Overall, great little things.”
“The pi is amazing. It is really small and can be put anywhere. Be mindful that it doesn't have WiFi meaning that you need a dongle or consider buying the zero w.
The postage was very fast and the checkout produces was easy. It also arrived in secure packaging with no damage.
Love it!!!”
