“Inky Impression is a super eReader. I have set it up with a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and followed the installation instructions on the Pimoroni website. All working correctly first time out.
The ordering process was simple - next day delivery as promised.
i couldn't be happier.”
“For a maker-centric color e-ink screen, it is great. Compared to similar competitor displays, it is a higher quality build and the software is significantly more convenient to use. It's as close to plug-and-play as e-ink gets.
The Spectra 6 color scheme is, indeed, more vibrant than older-generation ACeP 7 color e-ink panels. That said, there is a slight trade-off for that vibrance, as the reduction to 6 colors means more visible dithering in some images. It's not much, but is doubly visible because of the added vibrance. It seems to be a fair trade though: the right image on will look better on Spectra 6 than any image looks on ACeP 7.
All of the above is to be expected from a color e-ink screen. So, knowing that, this is probably the best Spectra-6 e-ink screen you can get in terms of build + software qualty and convenience.
An aside: 16-level grayscale e-ink displays are much better for photographs, assuming color isn't a requirement. I'd love to see Pimoroni put out a high definition 16-level grayscale screen, because I'd much prefer to buy one with their level of hardware and software quality.”
“I purchased both the 7.3" and 13.3" Spectra 6 models. The displays are significantly more vibrant than the previous generation panel I have. The contrast is also much better which makes these versions more viable to display photos / artwork.
So far I have found that Floyd Steinberg dithering and Atkinson dithering give me the best results for displaying photos but I am still experimenting.”
