I've got both versions of the Ink Impression73. I liked the ACeP version so much I wanted to try the Spectra6 as well. First of all, it is pricey compared to LCD screens but for my use case (a battery based photo display refreshed once a day) its perfect. Because it's eInk its not as clear as LCD either but that's a trade off, and from about 1 to 1.5 metres away there isn't any difference between it and an LCD other than minor colour fidelity. Speaking of color fidelity the ACeP version is much more sepia toned as reds and oranges are more dominant, and tends to look like an old 40 year old photo scanned and printed on normal paper with a cheap printer. While in comparison the Specra6 is much closer to the images true colour it appearing slightly green or blue (depending on the picture) in comparison to the ACeP rendering, the colour match is much better and while it still looks like a photo printed on a cheap printer, it looks more modern and clear with more accurate colours. It's worth bearing in mind any photos displayed have to be processed before displaying, as they'll need to be cropped, colour quantized and dithering to ensure colour and shading is matched or at least somewhat representative and in my opinion some saturation increased and brightness tweaked. I found a few libraries online that did well at converting images, I found I got better results by customising scripts that were written by others (more recently I found this library which more or less does what mine does https://github.com/Toon-nooT/PhotoPainter-E-Ink-Spectra-6-image-converter/tree/main). Point of note here, most of the examples online recommended Floyd-Steinberg, but I found it worked much better with Atkinson, while it takes a lot longer to process, once its done, its done. Image saturation and colour was better and I found them to be less bleached or too dark and better overall dynamic range without the random artifacts that Floyd-Steinberg seemed to render. So the TL;DR, would I recommend? Yes, use case dependent of course, suffice it to say that I liked it so much I bought 2.

orking with the Inky Impression has been an unexpectedly delightful experience. After setting it up for our Pokémon display project, I was genuinely impressed by how intuitive and beginner‑friendly the whole workflow is. Even the InkyPI environment — which I expected to be more technical — turned out to be clean, logical, and easy to navigate. You can get started almost immediately without any friction. What really stood out is how well the device fits creative, family‑friendly projects. We used it to showcase high‑quality Pokémon card images, and the results were fantastic. The 800×480 resolution handles detailed artwork beautifully, and the frame gives the display a warm, almost collectible feel — especially when showing a card-style image. My kids loved it, and it instantly became a small highlight in our home. From setup to daily use, the Inky Impression delivers exactly what it promises: a simple, elegant, and highly enjoyable e‑ink experience.

The screen is good. It works perfectly. The refresh rate is slow ~15s, but it is expected. No big deal. The python library provided is good and the examples are very helpful. I recommend it.

Beautiful in colour, easy to use with Pimoroni sample code. Standard photo size which is easy to find a frame, just need to find a frame shop to cut the mount for it.

Sehr gutes 7,3” Super Display von Pimoroni – funktioniert einwandfrei und lässt sich problemlos integrieren. Ein Cut-out bzw. eine Einlass-Schablone für Bilderrahmen wäre eine tolle Ergänzung.
